4862 Ah yes
I am Thomassee
I'm not sure
given the chaos
of Twitter's messaging
that I can hope
to see your postings there
but I do filter
Kindle and books

I'm not so new
to social media
but I don't know
that any but a very few
could say
they know what they're doing
It's evolving
so fast
it reminds one
of biomass

4862 I am a fan of Billy Collins
He's inspired me
enough to even try E.D.

Introduction to Poetry
is about where I'm at
using Strunk & White
as the instrument of torture

And now I am
the poet at the window

Though not the painter
with the candles on the hat
and certainly not the cigarette
nor the dog put to sleep

Perhaps though I am
the unmentioned cat
out in the yard
watching back

I prefer the Kindle because
The feeling is different
Dead trees cost too much
I don't need to get physical
carting stuff around

Well that's easy then
I avoid blowing my budget now
In my second year of Kindles
by dropping cable TV
That's a few more budgeted bucks
Then there was the TV HD upgrade I didn't do
a bit more for the old budget
The movies I don't go to see
That's another book a week
Hmmmm
The three bedroom I don't need
For floor to ceiling library shelves
Not to mention doctor bills
for back strain
and falling off the ladder
The gas I don't spend
driving out to buy books
The ol' SUV bought
to haul the things around
I don't need that anymore
Is there any way
I can cut into the grocery bills?
What about clothes?
Do I need them any more?

4862 I'm not doing tv this year
Boohoo the football playoffs start today
I got through the bowl games
without even looking at the scores
I can chalk up half a book or so
in any day the TV doesn't roar
It's a Kaizen change
a little one I could do
and I read about that too

4862 Hi Ann
The sample has saved me numerous times
from complete boredom
with a poorly written book
The biggest problem is books are long
life is short
and so
many of my worthy samples
go unbought
On the other hand
I have become suspicious
of many of the nonfiction books
written to illuminate
a contemporary subject
Most of them seem worthy
of only a longish magazine essay
Buying a whole book - wasteful
of my money and my time

4862 I bought a Kindle
a year ago today
and at first indulged
in having many books
open at the same time
Lately though
I find it better
to concentrate on one
less I never finish any
That may change again
since I also spent
many hours
reading the samples
that Amazon
so generously makes
free and easy
