Ann, limiting my favorite episodes of BOTNS to 3 only was really difficult. I really like all of them so far...Kathrin
No, Laura, I never hung our on the AOL book boards - only the Yahoo book groups :) But I'd buy that t-shirt right away! LOL

Ann, I'm in Germany, that's why I figured it would be easier if I didn't count for the contest. It's a pity To Kill A Mockingbird is not as well known here. That's why I recommend it every chance I get ;)
Kathrin
Ann, I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in what exactly you're doing. :) I'd love to listen to a podcast where you and Michael talk about your job! And that's not only because it is one of the things I can do once I've completed my studies.

Right now I'm on the last pages of Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar, I'm somewhere near the end of Robin Cook's Virus and Jane Austen's Persuasion.I should be able to finish The Bell Jar and already have the next book: Robin Paige's Death at Bishop's Keep.
Stephen, you should never give up comic books! I grew up with Astérix (Goscinny & Uderzo) and will always treasure the comic books we (my brother and I) have. We actually got them from our uncles.
Ann, your job sounds interesting, I hope to maybe, one day, hear more about your and Michael's job?
Kathrin
That one is easy! To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee - it's a book that is not as well-known here in Germany, which I really can't understand. I love that book and always recommend it to my friends and acquaintances here.
Oh, and I don't count in for the contest, okay? ;)
Hi,I figured I should introduce myself, as I somehow forgot it so far.
I'm Kathrin, 24, from Germany, and I joined this beautiful group a few days ago.
Originally, I heard about Books on the Nightstand by Ann herself at ANovelChallenge. (Thank you so much for that!) Now I'm slowly trying to catch up. My favorite episodes so far are the one about graphic novels, the one about summer reading and the one with the 2,002 book recommendations.
And, of course, I added a few of the books you mentioned to my book shopping list for the next time :)
I can't wait to hear more about the books you're reading!
Kathrin
Glad you like "Mt. TBR", Ann :) It's a word I first heard online, at a reading group. I have close to 200 unread books waiting for me, so I think you could consider it a Mt. TBR (even though I realize there are people with a lot more unread books that I). I think you have a point. Lists are hardly ever made to suit and please everyone.
Hmm, like Conny, I'm not an English native speaker, so I think maybe there's a different standard for us?
Anyway, I just checked the list and came up with the following:
I read 11 of the books on the list, I tried another three (among them the infamous Proust, more on that later). 4 are on my TBR stack and about 30 are books I would like to read in the future or will have to read for university (I'm a comparative lit major).
As for Proust, I'm glad Stephen came up with the additional category. I can only second (or is it third?) what Michael and Ann said. I had to read three of his works for class and I wanted to give up after the first, but I held out until page 30 of the first book - but I really had to force myself to get this far.
One thing's for sure, I'll enver again read any of Proust's works.
I also feel I miss things in books other people see quite often. That's why I hate discussing books in a group when the teacher force me to say something about it. Usually, by the time it's my turn everything I noticed has already been mentioned. That makes me feel so stupid sometimes :(
On the other hand, though, I love reading Shakespeare and I'm right now reading Jane Austen's Persuasion. I like reading classic literature (unless the writing really bores me - see Proust ;) ).
I did even worse than Conny on that list...I've read only 7 of the books on the list, but I have 2 more on Mt. TBR and even more on my want to read list. Of course, I also tried a few and put them down again.
But then, I've never been one who took on other people's "best reads".
