Ann - I love Handmaid's Tale also - it's one of my favorite books now, still and I've read it at least 3 times. I agreed with you when you said that it was still just as relevant now as when it initially came out 25 years ago.I did also just pick up Divided Kingdom from my local library and am going to start it soon.
My TBR pile is tremendous. I have books in my room, in my office, downstairs, in the bathroom and of course, a ton on my kindle.
I think that maybe you guys should do a show or a segment on required summer reading for students - it could be either a whole show (because I think that there is enough to talk about depending on the ages/grades of the reader) or split up by segment into many shows (one show you look at recommended/required reading for sixth and seventh graders, the next week for 8th graders etc.).
I'm currently reading In the Land of Invisible Women. It's about a Muslim woman that had basically lived in the West and adopted Western culture and then accepted a job in Saudi Arabia, where she had to accept Sharia law. It's really interesting so far!
American Born Chinese and The Bitch in the House. I find myself reading a ton of books about childbirth, family, women and balance.
Just finished The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and am currently reading The Patron Saint of Butterflies.
I live in NH and for a while, lived in Northern NH, near the VT border. In Southern NH, I liked the Toadstool Bookstore in Milford, NH. I loved The Village Bookstore in Littleton, NH also.
I just finished reading Persepolis - it was wonderful - now I'm on Mr. Maybe, which is total chiclit but whatever, it's all I can handle right now. Then on to Persepolis 2!!
I'm currently reading Lush Life. Then I'm on to Drood. CANNOT wait. I have Persepolis coming to me soon too!
I think that's a wonderful challenge!!!
My personal challenge is to read 100 books this year. Don't know if i'll get there...
