4862 Thank you for recommending The Graveyard Book. I don't think I would've read it, but the audio was great fun and made a trip go a lot faster! I am currently TRUDGING through the audio of The Poisonwood Bible. It is just like listening to someone read out loud. No change in voices, very little change in ANYTHING! Ugh!

4862 I LOVED the Book of Joe. I felt kinda bad though because it was a book club selection and my book club has some pretty conservative people in it!

Also, I was ok with The Emperor's Children. It was more of a character development novel rather than one with a real plot, but it was worth finishing.

4862 Oh I was going to recomment A Thousand Splendid Suns, too!

4862 I have just started American Wife A Novel. I'm interested in how I will read it-as in trying not to make a fiction story totally a biography (kinda like some did with The DaVinci Code).

4862 I didn't go see that movie on purpose JUST because Elaine didn't like it!! :)

4862 AHHH!!! Me, too!! I mean it was ok, but I'm not one of those "The Road is the BEST book you should all read it" people. Whew! So glad someone said something! :)
4862 I'm going to read Lolita. I've been wanting to read it since I read Reading Lolita in Tehran A Memoir in Books. Can't wait!

4862 How would I ever get anything read without BOTNS?!?!? :) Ann- Fun Home A Family Tragicomic has been on my list FOREVER, but seeing you talk about it on Facebook made me go get it. I am so excited that I am actually reading a graphic novel! It's been fun to read so far. Very out of my box, but I love it!

4862 Ok, Michael you were right again. I LOVE LOVE LOVED The Book Thief. We had 20 inches of snow, so I was stuck inside reading. It was great! I'm going to have to read a cheesy chick lit novel to cleanse my palatte though. SO DEEP!!
Mar 26, 2009 07:57AM

4862 Yes!! I am only 50 pages in and it's all I can think about-I want a snow day tomorrow so I can stay home and read all day!! Michael-your love of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Societymade me read it. It was one of my favorite books of all times. So I'm hoping to feel that way about Book Thief, too. Thanks so much to BOTNS for bringing great books to my life!

4862 Alright, Michael, I hope you are right...I'm starting The Book Thief as soon as I get home from work tonight. I was really excited about it but then our youth librarian at my public library said she didn't like it and couldn't even finish it. I hope she's in the minority!

4862 I want to BE an audio book narrator. REALLY BAD!! :)
Mar 18, 2009 07:12PM

4862 I loved The Secret Life of Bees but read it before all the hype hit. I just finished Water for Elephants and was impressed with that one, too!
Mar 18, 2009 10:29AM

4862 I did read a few of them, but I wait a couple of years until the hype dies down if there is one I want to read. I was so mad earlier this year because I started to read Edgar Sawtelle and then BAM-here comes Oprah telling everyone to read it!

4862 Pretty much if Oprah grabs ahold of it, I'm ashamed to say I'm reading it/have read it. There are few exceptions, but that's my general rule! :)

4862 Ok I have an idea! It may be way too late as Jan. 1st is only a couple of days away but...

How about challenges for the new year? Blogs online that post challenges, books we vow to read in 2009, that sort of thing.

4862 I can't believe that I had never even heard of either Extremely Loud OR Everything is Illuminated. I am STILL thinking about the EL characters 3 days after finishing the book!

Now I've moved on to East of Eden. I like it so far, but it seems like it may take awhile!
Nov 12, 2008 08:01AM

4862 I'm reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I am in love with it. I think about it all day and can't wait to get home to it at night. :) It's such a cool story and more of an experience than just a book.
