I just finished To The Lighthouse and was blown away. It's the third Woolf novel that I've read, and the most rewarding. But Jack--I respectfully disagree with your recommendation to skip the middle section. I thought that was one of the most haunting in the book. But, you know, that's just me. :-)

Hmmm...maybe Hamlet...or Bleak House...or To The Lighthouse...all on my shelves already. Choices, choices.

Oh, good--a classics David Sedaris! This is going to be fun.

I actually have a big stack of classics I'd like to tackle. Several I've read before. But one I haven't is Dickens' Bleak House. I loved the miniseries, and I can only assume the book is better.
