No one has been cast for the movie yet. Lionsgate simply purchased the movie rights, and all that means is that for the foreseeable future, Lionsgate is the only company that can even consider making a film version. There's no script, no director, and certainly no cast, probably not for several more years.
Taking her in is more of a clinical term. Like when your doctor sees you naked. Or, probably in a more direct correlation, how models treat nudity. While Katniss may have felt awkward (and actually, doesn't she say that she chooses to be defiant about it? Can't check - my copy is on loan to a friend), to Cinna it would have been strictly professional, surveying the tools he had to work with to create a masterpiece the Capitol would never forget.
Naomi wrote: ..."So that's a good question, how do you get them if your not a proofreader or editor?" ARCs/Galleys/whatever you want to call them are usually given out to book industry people either by direct mail or at industry conferences like Book Expo or the American Library Association conference. If you can attend either of those conferences there are free books galore (especially ALA).
From some editorial blogs I've read, it sounds like a lot of bloggers are also getting pretty brazen about asking publishers directly for specific ARCs. Sounds like the results have been hit or miss so far - some publishers (or maybe just certain editors at some publishers) are eager to get the books into the hands of whoever wants to read them. Other publishers want nothing to do with the untested medium of blogs, or will only send them to blogs with a demonstrably large reader base.
Thank you, Leah. Funny discussions are fine but this particular thread has been resembling a private conversation way too much. I don't think we have to have deadly serious discussions, but if you're going to go wandering way off topic, it's generally considered good netiquette to take the conversation to private e-mails so the rest of us aren't bombarded with dozens of messages that don't concern anyone but two or three people.
Last I heard (and this was several months ago, so something new could have come along), the ARC was going to debut at Book Expo America later this month in New York.
I went to a book signing yesterday that Suzanne Collins was at. I asked her a question about the next book and she said she's been sworn to secrecy about EVERYTHING regarding future books, including titles. She did, however, assure me that the 3rd draft was turned in to her editor just a few days ago and is hopefully moving into the copyediting stage and will be released next September.
Cindy Dobrez seems to get around! I found out about this book when I visited her and her current BBYA reading group. Someone had recently read it, and Cindy reiterated that she'd liked the book. I got it as soon as I could from the library (it was almost a two month wait!), and I devoured it in a day. I actually took a break right before the Hunger Games themselves started to tell Cindy that's where I was at, and three hours later I emerged from the novel, incoherent about how much I liked it! I haven't written my review yet because I'm still gathering my thoughts, but I felt a strong need to communicate with others about my love of this book!
