48322 weird ones are welcome! I think we are doing every other month (Maggie, correct me if I'm wrong)... so that means you'd have August rather than your birthday month...

48322 anything by Peter F. Hamilton.

can't believe you are about to give birth and you're still putting together a series for him to read - that's pretty amazing!

48322 and my apologies for taking HALF THE MONTH to remember to post this thread!

48322 hi everyone,

welcome to the final installment of our Culture series read. Hydrogen Sonata was published 25 years after the first Culture novel and was Banks' final science fiction novel. RIP, amazing author!

48322 I am not opposed to that! great series. I gave it a year-long pause after getting up to Memory (I think) but am hoping to get back into the series this year.
48322 I wasn't aware of the rating before, but that is not good news! Goodreads ratings are often inflated (although nowhere near as bad as Amazon's) so 2.98 feels like a solid 2 to me.
48322 I understand that she is a well-respected author and do plan on reading her. but whenever I read her name, I just mainly think of vampires and move on.

I do own Ariosto, which I don't think is a vampire book. one of these days...

48322 but they aren't actually evil! it's the men who are evil! I promise.

48322 oh! I didn't think about that. really good point. I'll update again, although I'm a wee bit sad that the author-ordered list is going away. well i suppose it's not going anywhere, it will still be here if people dig around.

plus that will give me a chance to put Stand on Zanzibar back at the top. not because I'm an egomaniac and it was my choice, but because it was the very first choice. although I guess because I am an egomaniac too, let's not kid ourselves mark.

thanks John for all of that info! I am intrigued.
Jan 04, 2016 12:29AM

48322 good to know, thanks. can the books beside the second and third be read as standalone novels?
Jan 04, 2016 12:18AM

48322 yeah, it will be a pain. as new additions come, I will probably just keep updating to keep Najaf's format. at least until I forget or become bored with doing it.

Children of the Lens beat out one book I enjoyed and one book that I absolutely love! I need to check that out.

you are not wrong!

thanks for reviving this thread/list. it has been a very useful one for me, and interesting as well to see which individual books are added.

I'm very impressed that you've read over half of the list. wish I could say the same.
