475 I read the book when it first came out after a friend recommended it to me. I'd never read anything by that author before, but it was a pretty good story. I enjoyed the PBS production, and I have to agree... I was sad that Lizzie & Darcy just didn't seem to have that "fire" anymore... just bored me :( Lydia was spot on... I love to hate her! LOL Overall, it was good & I'll probably watch it again at some point.

475 I'd have to say either Persuasion or Northanger Abbey!! They're my 3rd & 4th favorites of JA... behind, of course, P&P and S&S... Would LOVE to see film adaptations done in the style as with the movies featuring Keira Knightley and Emma Thompson :)

475 Oh my goodness!!! I'm SO excited!!! LOL I just found out from one of the blogs that there is going to be a new Jane Austen annotated edition coming out! Wooo Hooooo!!!

Persuasion: an annotated edition

This edition is edited by Robert Morrison, done in the same format as the P & P annotated edition, published by Harvard University Press. Won't be out until November. I LOVED the P & P edition, and have been hoping that they would do more! So.... only SEVEN months to wait! LOL As soon as they make it available for pre-order, I am ON IT!!! LOL :)

***Update: In addition, according to the same blog, Harvard Univ. Press is planning to do ALL 6 of the Austen novels in this annotated format, with Sense & Sensibility being worked on by the editor of the P & P edition. Very cool!!

475 Paul Bettany was also in the movies "Legion" and "A Beautiful Mind"... GREAT actor!!
475 I love the Austen books most of all, but also have to say that Jane Eyre is one of my all-time FAV books. I agree with the previous comments that Austen's books are much lighter, satirical... and the Bronte's works are darker & somewhat depressing. Writing styles are definitely different... but still love them both.
475 Hi Laurel :) I'm excited and looking forward to it!
475 I joined this challenge thinking I could just pick the books up at my local B&N... they didn't have them in the store, unfortunately. I then discovered that I had a coupon for B&N that expires today, so I went online & ordered the first 3 books in the series!! :) So looking forward to reading this series since I've heard so much about it.

That really stinks!!! I'd much rather see the show in it's entirety myself!

Phew!! LOL Thought maybe I missed out on something! I saw that whole series & have it on DVD... just wish they hadn't ended it like they did. They could've carried on with Henry's children...

Is this a whole new series, or is this from the series The Tudors?

Cranford was GREAT!! Really enjoyed it! And I see that several of you have already mentioned "Downton Abbey" which premiers on PBS this coming Sunday... really looking forward to that one myself!

475 I agree with the comments that it was well worth watching. I had no issue with "Jane" being portrayed by Amercian Anne Hathaway... I think she did a wonderful job of it. And I agree with Rachel... have your tissues nearby!! ;)

Just joined that group! Thanks so much for posting this. I have a few different things I've gotten from B&N lately, and they're "sequels" per their covers to Pride & Prejudice. Thought I'd check them out since I love that book so much... but hey! Who doesn't love Mr. Darcy?!?! :)
