Bunny, if you can come to PJ, Right Angle, section 14, you can get the series at Dawah Corner Bookstore (DCB). It's RM470.00 for the entire 10 volumes. The shop is a bit 'hidden'. If you can find a Bank Islam, then just follow that row of shops until you get to the end. That's where DCB is.Bank Islam is opposite Masjid Tun Abdul Aziz better known as Masjid Bulat. I think DCB has a map of its location online.
Edited to add: It's priced at RM470 but I was only charged RM450. Discount, apparently.
Popular doesn't necessarily mean good. Dan Brown's books are popular. Are they good? God, no! Brown is a hack writer. He uses his character's dialog to explain things to the reader. You know, like how the actors in CSI Vegas, Miami, New York and Batu Pahat talk to each other. It takes me out of the story when the characters do not speak like how people actually speak.
Bunnybaby wrote: "Unlike Khairul, if by the 10th page I'm still not interested, bye bye bye lah!"I tend to stick around till at least the halfway point because some books start slow and then pick up in the middle.
And I'm with you with overly descriptive authors. I don't care how a character looks like. I will probably ignore the descriptions anyway and make my own mental picture. Just give us a general description ("he is tall, with black hair and has a limp") and get on with the story.
On the other hand, there are a few authors who take short cuts on descriptions to the point of irritation. James Patterson, I believe, is guilty of this. Many of his characters look like celebrities. For example, "Susan looks like a young Jodie Foster" or "John may be mistaken for Al Pacino". Arrrrggghhh!
Can you guess all the titles based on their covers: http://www.sporcle.com/games/bookcovers....I only got 13 out of 24. I'm ashamed I couldn't remember the titles to no.s 6, 11, 14 and 19.
There are other book-based quizzes at that site: http://www.sporcle.com/games/category/li...
Have fun!
When reading it seems like a chore. When I don't care about the characters in the book.
When after reading halfway through the book, I'm still not interested in the story.
When 80% of the book is heart pounding excellent but it ends not with a bang but with a whimper (Stephen King, I'm looking at you!)
Anything that involves teenage girls and vampires. Also, wolf boys.
When a book is factually inaccurate especially in basic things. For example, stating that a bee colony is ruled by a king and not a queen bee. That's just poor research and the author deserves to be eaten alive by a pack of wolf boys. And vampires. And their teenage girlfriends.
Deviki, I didn't go to the sale. It was Faizah who got the book. I merely commented on her purchasing the Horrible Histories book because I have most of it (but not from the sale) and I enjoyed the series.
That Horrible Histories book is excellent. Get the entire collection! Very Euro-centric of course but still good for general knowledge. As for me, yesterday bought the complete 10 volume Tafsir Ibn Kathir - Abridged from Daawah Corner Bookshop, Section 14, PJ.
Oh, Joy!!
Gila-Gila is still around?? I collected that comic when it was, you know, funny and sarcastic, especially the articles and short stories. Then all the good writers left in the late '80s. That's when I dropped it.

Suzieanna, tengok awak punya wishlist kat bookmooch tu banyak Agatha Christie. Nak saya punya ke? Sbb saya dah upgrade ke omnibus editions, jadi yg edition yg lama-lama tu tak nak dah. Erm, tapi buku bukan pristine...edition lama, cover mungkin ada "dog-eared" sikit tapi keseluruhannya boleh dibaca.I think I should join this bookmooch thingy. There are 47 Msians there already.
Kataklicik wrote: "Hahahaha (tapi saya masih gigih berpegang pada janji taknak beli buku dah tahun ni...) (aduhhh, peritnya!)"Anyone believes she will keep her promise? Yeah, me neither.
Books as low as RM2??? Ni mesti buku saki baki Harry Potter yg takde sapa nak beli dah ataupun buku macam mana nak jadi jutawan muda.
in bed, with head leaning on the headboard (see my picture). When I was younger I used to read while eating, usually an Asterix or Tintin book.No particular favourite time for my reading, I read every free time I have but I must read before going to bed at night otherwise I cannot sleep.
I almost bought Court of the Air at BookXcess a couple of weeks ago. It's not very good, is it?There's another new steampunk novel which has been receiving good reviews: Boneshaker. Check it out.

Kena gali sendiri kalau nak cari. Kalau 2-3 orang di situ takpe. Ni berpuluh, beratus. Macam nak cari emas le pulak.
