4595 Even without Peabody, the first is the best--tough old Eve fallling in love in spite of herself, not even knowing what love is. I love how he woos her with coffee (even if he does mess up with that tacky diamond in the next book.)

4595 Generally, I like Eve. I like to think somehow a damaged person like Eve could find someone like Roarke who sees and loves the person who is underneath the scars; it so rarely happens in real life. However, that being said I would prefer to see less overt aggression and profanity and more subtle repartee in her jousts with Summerset. "Wit" beats "mean" anytime, in any contest. I also wished she'd be kinder to Peabody and let her eat lunch a little more often. Now, my #1 complaint--I wish she and Roarke would quit taking the name of the Lord in vain. Neither are supposed to be Christians, so why pick on Jesus all the time--why not give Mohammad and Buddha equal abuse?

4595 If so, I don't care. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Can't wait for the next one and I hope Roberts (or whoever writes them) doesn't mess too much with a good thing.

4595 No, no, no--nobody could play Roarke without being devastatingly disappointing. It would totally ruin the fantasy! I read the whole series just this year, and since I had already seen TV's Castle, I pictured Stana Katik as Eve from the start of my first book.

4595 I'm with you, B. While awaiting another ..In Death" book, I have broken down and read some Nora Roberts books hoping for the best and am always disappointed. In fact, one of the reasons I never tried the "...In Death" series until this year was because I didn't like the Roberts books I had read up till this time. I picked up my first "...In Death" book, cheap, at a church rummage sale and was delightfully surprised. I could have gone to my own death missing these delights because I read Nora Roberts before trying J.D. Robb. If the series is written by ghost writers, Ms. Roberts should have them do all her books.
