Vanessa - I agree - I listen to audiobooks and most of the J.D. Robb books are like 12-15 hours long - so of course trying to cram all of that in a 2 hours movie never works all that well!

I would love to see the book series turned into a movie or tv series. I love it when they do that - they are almost always a disappointment and never how I would picture it. Yet the tv/movie always makes me appreciate the books more!
If they are ghost writers (and different ones at that), then I am impressed! I read alot of series books and have found that the in death series is pretty good at keeping the grammatical style, term use, and characters steady throughout the series. I read the first like 18 in a row and while there were of course some differences - overall there were more similarities. Other series that I have read are OBVIOUSLY written by others - you can tell b/c the style changes from book to book or in some extreme cases, the characters have totally different mannerisms! In total, if someone else is writing them - keep it up, they are doing a good job!
I think Eve is stealing it! I think she hides it and goes and gets it when she is hungry and forgets that she ate it OR forgets where her last hiding place was and goes to old places. She is generally busy and forgets those sorts of "useless" details. Just a thought :)
