4500 Magic Study is a fantastic book (the first of 3 in a series). The author also has a new series coming out next month that I am looking forward to reading as well.

Your list idea is great by the way!

4500 Here is a list of books I have read lately that are good. None of them are vampire related in anyway, just as a warning. I tried one vampire series (Sookie Stackhouse) since Twilight and couldn't make it through 50 pages.

The Longest Trip Home A Memoir: By the author of Marley and Me (another fantastic read), John Grogan. The story of Johns childhood growing up in Michigan up until 2004 when his father is diagnosed with leukemia. Have the kleenex ready.

Poison Study: The first in a great 3 book series by Maria V. Snyder. These books have a magical theme which I really enjoyed. (Other two books are Magic Study and Fire Study). For me, they're on par with the Twilight series, entertainment wise.

The Other Boleyn Girl: A historical fiction book by Philippa Gregory. Book is about Anne Boleyn's sister who was rumored to have had an affair with Henry VIII. This book got me hooked on historical fiction.

A Thousand Splendid Suns: by Khaled Hosseini. An absolutely heart wrenching tale of two women living in Afghanistan. This has been one of my favorite books so far this year (it came out a few years ago but I just got around to reading it). Have the kleenex ready for this one too.

The Kommandant's Girl: by Pam Jenoff. Another great historical fiction this time taking place during WWII in Poland.

The Secret History of the Pink Carnation: by Lauren Willig. I am currently in the middle of this book and love it so far! There are 4 following it in the series. It is a caper-like mystery set in the 1800's in Paris during Napoleons's reign. I love mystery and romance which this book has plenty of so far.

It was hard to move on from the beloved Twilight series but all of these books were great reads that I enjoyed.
Movie Thoughts (17 new)

4500 I have yet to find a movie that is better or even as good as the book. They just can't put everything from a book into a 2 hour movie. So I always going into movies telling myself that.

I think the best books made into movies have been the Harry Potter ones and even those aren't nearly as good as the books.

I think Twilight did a pretty good job as well, considering how big of a book it is. The hard part will be making the later books which are even bigger and have so much plot wise in them. I hope they make the movies longer for the sake of the story line. I wouldn't mind watching a 3 hour movie (I'd enjoy it), especially if it mean keeping the integrity of the books.

Movie Thoughts (17 new)
Feb 03, 2009 08:33AM

4500 So I finally just went to see Twilight over the weekend (I waited until it was at Cheap Flicks...because I'm cheap!). I was pretty happy with the way it turned out, considering some of the things I read.

The biggest issue for me was the 'running' special effects. I thought they were so cheesy and I think they could've been done in a better way. I actually laughed at a few of the scenes (Edward opening the car door for Bella).

Overall though I was pleasantly surprised with the movie and will probably be going to see it again with my sis-n-law.

What are everyone else's thoughts on the movie? I know I'm late with this!

4500 I can't picture her as Leah at all. I think it's a big stretch.
