4391 Ewww that stinks!

I'd say I already have a good stock of DWJ myself... the library has some but many seem to be missing actually which is a bum.

I need to get... according to GR... many short stories or probably out of print or just hard to come by as shops don't stock her books because they have to fill their shelves with half a load of crapply written books from the latest fad. (Not that I'm bitter about that.)

Changeover
Unexpected Magic
A Sudden Wild Magic
Witch's Business
Stopping for a Spell
Seeing is Believing: Seven Stories
Spellbound which isn't really all of DWJ and I have seen it around...
Wizard's Castle
Hidden Turnings: Colection of stories through time and space.
Fantasy Stories
Minor Arcana
Yes Dear
Four Grannies
The Skiver's Guide
Chair Person
Puss in Boots
Emma Hittens

Everything else I have.

4391 I've read Conrad's Fate but not The Pinhoe Egg (yet). I didn't think Conrad's Fate was as good as those two, but still quite enjoyable. It didn't seem to have the same flare though unfortunately.

4391 Oh good! Phew! I can't wait, it sounds really good too.

4391 Haha!

I really don't have anything against those kind books though it might sound like I do. I just think we should have a decent choice and bookshops should not just foist the most popular fad on us because it makes money. I love HP but it annoyed me seeing stacks of those books around too. Now it's Vampire novels. I just want to scream.

4391 I went into an indie shop and they had so many more books on their shelves and it was a smaller shop. But there was something for everyone and somehow they managed to squeeze it all in. In Waterstones, one author will get about 2 whole shelves to themselves and another might get one book or so...

4391 Yeah I will but I feel RAGE against Waterstones. Why should I give them money for it? I mean, they're so bloody incompetent. Serious I hate my local Waterstones. It has no real selection. About 60% of the books they stock are trashy romancey books which is fine but not if you want to read something else. Literally about half of every shelf will contain some bodice ripper/trash.

Katie bleeding Price who doesn't even write her books, gets a whole shelf to herself.

4391 Goodie, that will mean I'll get it first and will be able to brag about it to you.

UGH but I KNOW that my bookshop here locally won't stock it because it would rather stock only VAMPIRE novels and other paranormal romance and stuff.

House of Many Ways didn't come out here until this year, one whole year after it was published. Stupid bloody hateful awful evil bookshop.

4391 According to Amazon not till January 2010! Or how do they expect us to wait that long, I hope it's wrong... but according to Diana's official website 2009 sometime (soon??) I know which one I want to believe.

4391 Yep I have heard, there was a topic around here somewhere... but this is a better description.

Excellent it's been added to GR with a cover. When the Hell is is out?

It sound BRILLIANT!

4391 Same here. I try not to watch the film so soon after reading the book as well now, otherwise I find myself comparing even if I don't want to.

4391 Her new book - only what it says on the website - something about talking vedge lol! The website says this year but when I did a search I found her agent page and that said NEXT year which I sincerely hope not! I can't wait that long.

I hope she gets better too. I love Diana Wynne Jones to pieces and I can't bare the idea that she might stop writing.

I mean obviously her health is more important then writing books for us, but you know... I'd hate to lose her.

4391 I really enjoyed it too Eden. I wish it had been longer - I feel there is a lot of room for a sequel!

Though I think DWJ hasn't been that well for a while which is why perhaps it was so short if she couldn't really spend a lot of time to sit down and write. Something to do with her spine I think. Which is so sad. :(

I hope she does write one though. it felt far too short.

4391 No sotry is every truly original. Harry Potter created a very real world though that had a lot of appeal. But of course, wizard school, boys with scars and prophesies and good vs evil isn't original. I don't really get the whole argument really. It doesn't matter to me - I enjoyed it, it was well told, a good story and a very detailed world.

4391 Yay, welcome Eden great to see you here too!

I'm so glad you enjoyed Howl so much, I think that's one of my all time favourites.

May I recommend:

Charmed Life which is for the same age range and is part of the whole Chrestomanci Series. And Cart and Cwidder and the rest of the Dalemark Quartet.
May 24, 2009 06:41PM

4391 I haven't cos I want to read the book first!
May 24, 2009 04:22PM

4391 Ahh... I don't think anime is really that big over here... then I live in a small town/city... I'd love a cuddely Totoro!

I have the Totoro manga book things though. :D
