4170 I completely agree about the pacing problems. The only storyline that I thought came to a satisfying conclusion was Theon's. Not all of the storylines have to come to a tidy end for the book to work, but there are just too many major cliffhangers at the end of this one: Jon, Dany, Stannis, Tyrion (not in mortal danger, but will he ever join up with Dany?), Cersei's trial, Jaime and Brienne, etc.

4170 Overall I enjoyed the book, but there were just too many storylines that teased me with cool possibilities and didn't deliver anything, like (view spoiler)

I still very much enjoyed the characters, and I loved getting to learn more about how wargs work. I just wish more of the storylines had gone somewhere instead of treading water.

4170 I just finished A Fire upon the Deep. I loved the setting and worldbuilding, though the characters and plot were a little lackluster. Still worth it overall.

Currently I'm reading SuperFreakonomics: Global Cooling, Patriotic Prostitutes And Why Suicide Bombers Should Buy Life Insurance, though I'll put that on hold the instant that A Dance with Dragons comes out.

4170 I pre-ordered on Kindle. I've never liked reading large awkward hardbacks that I can't hold in one hand, and this way my wife and I can read simultaneously (one on a kindle and the other on a laptop). I love technology.

4170 Hi, I'm Jason. I love fantasy and science fiction, though I am definitely more of a sword than a laser. I've been listening to the podcast for a while now and decided to finally take the plunge and get involved in the discussions.

At the moment I would say George R R Martin is my favorite author (his Song of Ice and Fire books just grabbed me by the face and wouldn't let go until I'd finished them!), but I also love Robin Hobb, Brandon Sanderson, Orson Scott Card, and too many others to list.

I'm writing an epic fantasy novel right now, and I have a website at JasonGarman.com. There's not a lot there right now as I'm writing my first book, but there's a couple reviews and some other things as I figure out what content is interesting. It's mostly just a public declaration of my intention to write to motivate me to finish.
