Spoil away, Mary, and welcome to the discussion. We leave it to our members to avoid the discussion threads until they've finished reading the books in question. Unless, of course, they don't mind being spoiled. :)
Sorry I'm a few days late posting this, everyone. Our June 2009 book is Jeffrey Ford's The Portrait of Mrs. Charbuque: A Novel, chosen by Claire. Thanks, Claire!
Will you be reading this with us?
Winter Rose by Patricia A. McKillip is our May 2009 group read, chosen by Brittany. Thanks, Brittany!
Who plans on joining in? I'm not sure if I'll be able to as I'm currently being run ragged by school, but I'll probably read it at a later date.
That's what we've been doing so far, yes. Like a real-life book club, everyone goes away and reads the book in total before visiting the discussion thread (unless they're fine with spoilers, of course). Maybe we should change that. Is everyone here happy with the current system? We could divide each book into chapters, for example, or we could have two discussion threads -- one spoiler-free for those who are currently reading and one with spoilers for those who have finished. Any other ideas?
Edited because I have sleepy butter fingers.
Ooo, thanks for the link, Lia! I, too, have read the book already. Listening to the audio version this time around is a great idea!
I had the same experience when I read it, Pamela. I took small, beautiful bites of it until suddenly everything just clicked. From that point on, I couldn't put it down. I devoured it.
Great choices! I envy everyone who will be reading The Orphan's Tales for the first time. It is easily the best book I've read in the past 10 years.

Okay, I've finished. I haven't had time to write down all of my thoughts on it yet, but I will say that I liked it. A lot.
So far, both Kay and Claire have expressed an interest in borrowing a copy. We'll go by the date the posts were made, which means Kay is up first. Kay, go ahead and send me a private message with your address in it and I'll ship it out to you as soon as possible. :)
Claire will be up after Kay. Kay can send her my copy once she's done with it. Unless, of course, somebody else comes forward with a copy they're willing to lend out first.
If there's anyone else here who would like to borrow a copy, just let me know and I'll put you on the list!

Hello Ramona,
Inspired by your post, I went ahead and made a massive update post regarding our monthly group reading choices. You can find it in our "Monthly Group Reading Choices" thread, which is pinned at the top of this forum. I hope that it helps some. If, of course, you have any further questions after reading it, just let us know.
Hello everyone,
This is a catch-all post chock-full of information about our monthly reading choices. If you're wondering how we choose our books, please refer to the very first post in this thread.
For reference purposes, here's an updated list of our past and present choices, complete with links to their respective discussion threads:

Our next two reads are as follows:
- January '09: One for Sorrow, by Christopher Barzak (Author Q&A month)
- February '09: Briar Rose, by Jane Yolen (Rora's choice)
Christopher Barzak is both the author of One for Sorrow and a member of our group. When we noticed his turn was next, we contacted him to see if he would be interested in making One for Sorrow our January pick and possibly doing a Q&A with our group members. He was nice enough to agree. Thanks again, Christopher! We'll have more information on how the Q&A is going to work soon, once we've figured out all of the details.
March '09 is Reem's choice. Because she proposed three separate books, we've decided to let our group members narrow it down to one via the polling system. To vote, click "polls" on the top-right corner of your screen, or go here. The poll is open until January 31st, 2009. Thank you, Reem, and thanks to everyone who has voted so far!
Finally, the following six members are up next after Reem, in order:
- Lia
- Brittany
- Tigana
- Annebeth
- Bet
- Heather
If you're one of the above members and you would like to choose a book, you can do so in one of three ways:
- Wait for one of the mods to send you a private message. One of us usually does so a month or so before your turn.
- Message one of the mods privately with your choice.
- Respond in this thread.
If none of the above members decides to choose a book, we'll move on to the next six members on our member's list.
As always, if you have any remaining questions, we'll do our best to answer them. Just let us know!
I hope this post has been helpful!
I'm in. I'm really looking forward to this because One for Sorrow has been on my to-read list for a while now. Many thanks to Christopher for agreeing to do this!
Welcome, Emilie!
Each group chooses their books differently. We allow our members to choose a book based on the order they joined. To get a rough idea when it will be your turn, click "members" in the upper right-hand corner of the page then arrange the list by "date joined." For example, the third member who joined (myself) made our third book pick. If your pick is still a long way off, please, don't let that discourage you. Many of our members choose to skip their turn, which is perfectly fine (we're a no pressure group here), so your turn will likely come a lot sooner than expected.
As for One for Sorrow being our January choice, keep your eyes open for a small announcement on that soon. :)
I love that I'm not the only one here that sometimes links paintings with books. The Nature of Water and Air is linked with J.W. Waterhouse's "Miranda - The Tempest" in my head. See here:
