4030 Here's an interesting article about the ancient origins of fairy tales.

4030 For those of you who keep paper journals and/or reading logs, here's an online source for fairy tale-themed blank books, (not to mention t-shirts, decorative boxes, stickers, canvas bags & other merchandise with golden age fairy tale illustrations).

As an added bonus, purchases support the SurLaLune fairy tale website.

Baba Studio carries lots of lovely fairy tale-themed items:

fyi: I found their website through the blog of Endicott's Midori Snyder:

note: I'm not affiliated with any of these websites or stores - I just like them. :)

4030 I wanted to share one of my favorite blogs - Into the Hermitage, the beautiful and magical creation of traveling artist Rima.

In today's post, she talks of visiting with Endicott creator Terri Windling.

Are there mythic arts-related websites or blogs you read that you'd like to share?

4030 Yay! We now have our reading choices lined up through the end of the year, thanks to Sidhe, Michelle and kristinsdóttir:

October - The Fair Folk (stories) - edited by Marvin Kaye
November - A Great and Terrible Beauty - Libba Bray
December - Lambs of God - Marele Day

I just noticed that the last names of the three authors/editor rhyme (which is meaningless, but seems funny after the Changeling coincidence - & I enjoy signs & portents)

4030 I have it on order at the library.

4030 The book cover alone would make me want to read this one, and it also sounds like a fun book. (I already have it on order from the library.)

4030 We have our September book, thanks to Terrea and Pamela who BOTH chose Changeling by Delia Sherman - separately from each other, far as I know. (That gives the book a little extra magic, don't you think?)

If you got an email from me about book choices but haven't had a chance to respond yet, feel free to do so when you can. It would be great to get the October & November choices lined up. (Just think - one of you gets to choose our Halloween read. ;) )

4030 Who's reading Un Lun Dun with us?

4030 Thanks, Ramona. (Terrri, me too. The great thing about open-ended discussions is that it's never too late to join in.)

Thanks to Kim & Hilary, we now have our July & August choices lined up!

July - Un Lun Dun by China Mieville
August - Innamorati by Midori Snyder

Happy summer reading.

p.s. If you got a message from me but haven't had a chance to respond yet, don't worry that you've lost your turn. Just email me your reading choice & we'll schedule it in as one of the books for the next few months.

4030 Hi All,
Sorry for my long absence (lots of "life stuff" to attend to).

Ramona sent me a really nice message asking what our July reading selection is & I realized I hadn't lined it up yet!

I've just sent messages to the next Endicott members on the list to choose our reading selections, so hopefully we'll have the next few months lined up shortly.

Hope you're all having a nice summer.
Thanks for being a member of the Endicott group.

4030 I just got my copy from Amazon. I didn't realize there was a sequel (nice to know if I love it, there's more to read!)

4030 Ireland? Wonderful! Where did you go (and which faeries did you meet?)
Mar 04, 2009 03:29PM

4030 Thanks!
Mar 03, 2009 10:11PM

4030 Many thanks to Lia, Brittany and Claire for getting back to me about your book choices! We now have reading selections through the end of June:

May: Winter Rose by Patricia A. McKillip
June: The portrait of Mrs. Charbuque by Jeffrey Ford

Reem, I'm so sorry you can't find The Orphans Tales in Saudi Arabia. I hope you have better luck with the other selections & I'm looking forward to seeing your reviews of the Endicott books you do read. fyi: I've just set up a separate topic in "General Discussion" for people who want to comment on Endicott books other than the monthly selections.

4030 This topic is for anyone who wants to post comments on Endicott books other than the monthly selections.

4030 The odd thing about this book for me is that I have read it twice in the last 10 years, and I still don't remember a thing about it.
I don't remember disliking it, and I was excited when Rora chose it for our February reading selection because I thought it would be interesting to discuss it. But when I flipped through it today, none of it seemed familiar - not the characters or plot or descriptions.

I know it isn't the subject matter, because I read a similar novel from the Endicott list (The True Story of Hansel and Gretel by Louise Murphy)and one from outside the list (Everything Is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer) which made indelible impressions on me & still haunt me.

I guess I'll just have to read it a third time & maybe the discussion here will make a deeper impression than the last two readings of the novel.

(She said, perplexed.)
