Welcome, Nerys.

I really loved York's Effigy. I'm looking forward to your review of Fauna.

Hi, Gerry. I don't know much about the book itself yet, other than the gay theme, but the author is a Canadian, for sure.

Hi, Jerry. I just discovered an author on here that you may be interested in. She wrote, among others, Triptych. It's SF and it sounds like it has gay themes. I've ordered a copy from amazon.ca. The author is Canadian but her name escapes me right now. I'd have to go off this thread to find it, but if you're interested enter Triptych as a title and look for an author who uses her initials followed by her surname!
Sorry. Silly of me not to have looked her up first!

Interesting to read about Half Blood Blues. I think I'll read it next. My husband is half-Cree and I wrote a YA mystery about a half blood boy who suffers discrimination.

40089 Bit like a lottery, I think. I'm now reading one that also came close to being on the longlist. Don't have it with me, and can't quite remember the name - it's about a young East Indian woman's immigrant experience, and so far, it's great. Shame that one didn't make it, either.

40089 I've read a couple of books that were included on the CBC "vote for the Giller longlist". I particularly liked one that didn't make it - That Summer in Franklin by Linda Hutsell-Manning. You can see my review of it here on Goodreads. I was surprised that it didn't make it. It's very well-written.
Now I'm starting with the Pauline Holdstock on the longlist, and will check in with my shortlist guesses later.
