40089 I - like you - found it very hard to relate to the characters ... and the family in general. I keep thinking it may be because of the Jewish factor - but I can't truly be sure if that's it or not.

It was a tight knit family - but so tight knit, the relationships were suffocating each other, trying to not step on toes or hurt feelings or please expectations. I think most siblings have a better -or healthier might be a better word - relationship with each other than this particular family does. They all have trouble expressing their own experiences or feelings to themselves - forget about to each other. I kind of felt sorry for the siblings on the whole - especially the two older ones who were trying to step out of their mother's shadow and become adults on their own.

I felt that there were a lot of assumptions going on throughout the story - without very much real communication. And because of that, everyone seemed to be seeing things through their own particular viewpoints.

You know - I can't quite figure the title. I'm still working on it's particular significance. It is ironic - as I found the whole thing bad.... but that was perhaps my particular take on it. Keep wondering why it was a finalist. Not alot of options to select from?!
