390 Vane is the first were hunter, so it's kind of independent, but it does have earlier characters. I mean, Zarek isn't chronological either, but he's earlier on, so go for it. You will be skipping sexy Talon and his Pez dispensers, but so be it. ;)

390 Aww... I'd vote Vane's book as I think Zarek is a poor substitute for Zsadist, but then my love of Seth would be evidence to many of my questionable taste. LOL

390 LOL, we've got two read exchanges going on now. I'll let you off with just the first VA book, as I've read the first Dark Swan, I just wasn't as taken by it as I was with VA and Georgina (apparently Dorian becomes more appealing, but so far he doesn't hold a candle to either Dimitri or Seth for me - and yes, I'm a freak who likes both of them LOL).

Will read this one after Cassie ;)

390 Sister mine, you have to read her YA series - Vampire Academy is awesome! But I'm right there with you on the impatient wait for more Georgina. And one day I'll get around to reading Storm Queen, but the first one didn't pull me in like her two other series.

390 I've read Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series, which is entertaining and has improved as it's gone along - but she's no J.R. Ward, IMHO. However, I believe the story in Deep Kiss of Winter is from her Alien Huntress series, and I haven't read any of those.

390 **** Vague-ish Nocturne City series SPOILER ****

Denell, you jumped into the series with Witch Craft? Interesting. =) I'd definitely recommend the earlier books in the series. I'm not exactly sure where Caitlin is taking Luna, and whether or not Dmitri will be back, but I'm looking forward to the next installment.

390 Having just finished rereading Rachel Vincent's Prey, I've got to add Jace to my list. He really comes into his own in this book and I know we've got even better things to see from him in the coming books.

Really enjoyed going through Vincent's Shifter series again. Prey was just as brilliant the second time around, making me cry just as much. I'm so anxious for Shift!

Well, I'm picking it back up and have added it to my challenge list for the month, so we'll see how it goes. And their relationship never bothered me - it had a real Supernatural feel to it.
390 Wow... I'm having trouble comprehending not having an undying love for Rehv. He's awesome! Hopefully you'll grow to love him with his book.

*** Potential Spoilers ***

Qhuinn and Blay = awesome! I think it would be a cop out to throw a female in the mix and I'm not expecting her to do it. She's already confirmed their each other's HEA, so I will just sit back and wait (im)patiently for their love story to unfold.

I really must go back to this book. I got about 2/3 of the way through and was really enjoying it, but put aside for one reason or another (probably the release of a long-awaited book), but I never finished it.

Woohoo, Cade! Yummy, scrummy Cade. My fave, hands down. Wicked hot and hilarious - what's not to love?

Eighth Grade Bits was cute enough, but a bit too young for me (this coming from someone in their 30s who regularly reads YA). Undoubtedly a great series for a younger young adult.

390 The resolution of The Host's main story line (not quite the very end of the book), made me cry like a little girl. So good...
6 days ago, 10:30PM

390 LOL, it wasn't yours, I've read that series - several times. =)

I suppose it's bound to happen in a thread like this. I was just surprised to find out a spoiler for a series I've only just started though. Oh well.
6 days ago, 10:14PM

390 Eek... I've got to stop reading this thread as people keep throwing in spoilers for books I haven't read yet.
390 Oh, and in this isn't a bash on Kenyon in anyway (nor am I aiming to come across as a crazed cellie), because I really love a number of the books in the series - but I disagree that Ward's books are just standard PNR HEAs. I think it's become evident in the last two books how big of a role the world building has become, at the dismay of a number of the PNR purists. But for me, it's what has made her world so much stronger and the best PNR series going
390 Tara wrote: "Actually I think the story that MIGHT (see that's a really big might) sell you, Mel, on the Sherrilyn books would be Dance With The Devil, which is the Zarek story, it's the 3rd book. ..."

See, and while I appreciate Zarek's story, having read Zsadist's story first - and seeing the obvious similarities between the two, he just couldn't compare. I know his book came first, but I just think Ward did the tortured lonely hero so much better. I know I'm in the minority with this though, as he is really popular.
390 Mel wrote: "...To be honest: I think it's an insult to JR Ward to compare her to Kenyon. Kenyon can only wish she could write like that. ..."

LOL, oh I don't think she's as good - no one is. ;) However, I do enjoy the series and am a real sucker for all of the Were Hunters and Ash. But I'll accept defeat if you read Vane's story and still aren't convinced.
