"Unless you actually LIKE the pain, in which case the physical abuse becomes a defendable form of medical research." pg 56, 5th full sentence of Why We Suck by Denis Leary.
It was the second book on the closest stack. The first book didn't have anything on the page 56.

I fell off the couch reading his book Fluke. The whole scene about why his wife became lesbian and left him was hysterical.
I've been a comic book fan since high school. As an adult, I tend to wait until a series is released as a graphic novel. I am an art school girl, so the appeal is as much for the art as it is for the story.

I've been watching at http://www.watchtrueblood.net/

I think there's more than that. Jason walks into a room and most of the women and a few guys always look up and follow him with there eyes. I think the Newlins see this as chrisma and, if they can train him, he could bring in followers.
If you like steamier books, Laurel K. Hamilton has the Meredeth Gentry series.
Charles de Lint writes urban fantasy that pulls from Irish and Native American Lore. He has quite a few YA books now that are very good.
I love the Mercy Thompson Series. It has vampires, fairies, and werewolves.
It's not the amount of sex that offended me, it was the lack of plot movement. I enjoy the smutty stuff, but I want there to be more to the story than just the sex.
I have received 2 and am waiting on a third.
They are on my first reads book shelf. They weren't things I would have picked up otherwise, but when I read the descriptions on the giveaways, I thought, sure I'd read that.

Thank goodness! The series started so strong and then just lost momentum. I'll look forward the new one.
My husband won't let me within a mile of Barnes and Noble, lest I be drawn in like a moth to flame. I get stuck in book stores for hours. So I just have to wait until they stock it at Walmart.
Lisa,
The trick is to get to know your librarians. If they know you by sight and know what you like to read, they will want to order books that you want to read.
The dog is there in the book. Before Bill comes and picks Sookie up, the dog sniffs at her, whines and licks her. She thinks about petting him and realizes she can't.
I was inspired and had to re-read it after the second show. Luckily, a couple of years ago, I found a book club hard back with the first 3 books. Yeah, HalfPrice.
