3881 This was my first Poirot mystery I picked up. I was skeptical since I'm a huge Miss Marple fan...but I loved this one! Sold me on Poirot day one. Starting it up today.

That sounds like Sherlock Holmes territory. I'm adding this one to my to read list. You might find Maggots, Murder and Men an interesting read as it was written by a forensic entomologist.

3881 I just happened to find this group on the same month you selected to read the very first Miss Marple story. Coincidence, since I decided to that myself, and finished it in about four days. I love the people and the time period of these mysteries. So innocent and yet so full of murder!

3881 I decided to start with Christie's first Miss Marple book this month since I got hooked on 4:50 From Paddington. I wrote a review as to why I enjoy Miss Marple versus modern writings, and it has to do with the characters for me. When her nephew Raymond West compares St. Mary Mead village to a stagnant pond, Miss Marple points out it only takes a closer look with a microscope to see the hidden life beneath the surface. I think that statement aptly describes the seemingly placid characters in a Miss Marple story. Before CSI we had village gossip and wise old birds to crack the case.
