No. Because there is no way everyone would agree to what is perfect or pretty. Different cultures, races, ethnic groups, religions...
I think governments always have and will keep lots of secrets from people in the name of "protecting" them.
The whole concept that by making them "pretty" they will be more successful is so short sighted. And the discarded past gets rid of the good as well as the bad.

the other issues is when something is forbidden, kids will go out of their way to see why. I remember hunting down Forever by Judy Blume and then was like okay... no big deal....
My opinion to censorship is you have a right to censor your (or your child's) reading material but you do not have a right to censor any other person (or child's) reading material.
A parent should discuss books with their kids but often they dont. Esp. if the subject is sex. But I dont think just because they won't, it should be left up to other parents/politicians etc...
And often I have found, many parents who support censoring often havent even read the book in question, so how on earth could they possibly know the issues involved with the particular book.
It is so much easier to blame the ills of society on books, tv, movies, music, video games etc... than face the fact that a lot of parents refuse to PARENT their kids.

We had them - Narnia, Oz etc... Adults like them too because they are just really good stories
A Pawn - yes. But did he really have a choice on the quest? What would his life have been like had he not?
