"Happy" YA books (27 new)

3551 About Airborn - I think the first and last parts of it are very good, however the middle is rather boring and dragged out, and I don't think the author handled that bit very well. But overall it's four stars!

3551 So Jeremy, what kind of things have you read?

*looks skeptical*
Reading Rate (32 new)

3551 You're not a loser if you're a fast reader... Admittedly, I read fastest when it's a new book, and I know I'm not skim reading! I never skim read, generally because I don't read books that I know I will rate one star. I suppose where your eyes are focusing affects your reading rate: if your eyes are travelling left to right on every line, you will read slower!

3551 Here we can discuss reading rates (how long it takes you to read a book), and how much we read! My average reading rate is probably 300 pages per day, but my maximum reading rate is 1200 pages per day (I know this because I have just read 4 books of the Warriors series in one day).

The Entire Sherlock Holmes series, by Conan Doyle
The Jungle Book
Into the Wild by Erin Hunter
The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud

Currently reading:

Plan to read this month:
Twilight
The whole original Warriors series

I think that's quite a good month of reading!

3551 Well, they are normal kids... Not super-smart or anything, lol

3551 Thanks! That will be next on my list. BTW, if anyone wants to subscribe to my updates, I generally have around two a day, with a useful thought, and I am also reading two to three books at the same time!

3551 I liked Bilbo the best! He seems much more brave than all the dwarves. I also liked Beorn, though!
Final thoughts (48 new)
Jun 19, 2009 12:29PM

3551 This was my review:

This book was a pretty good read, but the plot was rather obvious in places. It also felt like the author was dragging out the dialogue, and making the characters appear too scared to say something so the surprise would be saved for the end.

The predictability of the plot meant this book is more likely to be shelved in the childrens section, rather than the young adult section of a bookshop, however the final plot twist was not obvious.

In summary, it makes a good afternoons read, and I will certainly be reading the next books in the series, although I expect them to be better!

3551 The photos are not exactly encouraging, either....

3551 Just checked the pen pals website...It seems only wierdos go on there, unless I'm looking for the wrong search terms!

3551 Interesting you see her as a role model... I see her a just another fellow reader!
Jun 17, 2009 07:12AM

3551 Yes, I'm 13, and I read "The Da Vinci Code" a few years ago...
Jun 17, 2009 06:33AM

3551 What does that matter? Having age ranges for books is entirely stupid, although it would make an interesting topic.
Harry Potter (160 new)
Jun 14, 2009 12:05PM

3551 I think the problem with the more recent Harry Potter movies is that they leave quite a bit out. I like movies to stay true to the book!

Eragon

And also I might re-read the Harry Potter series, just for fun!
Harry Potter (160 new)

3551 Did you know that the first editions of the 6th and 7th books have almost exactly the same number of pages!

3551 Hi, I joined Goodreads a few days ago and now have 180 books! My favorite books are Lord of the Rings, Sherlock Holmes, and Artemis Fowl series. I am admittedly a bit low on young adult stuff, so I am going to get Twilight series, Warriors series, Eragon series, and Bartimaeus series. My friend Lupin also recommended Pendragon, so I'll have a look at that too!
