Sister wives (22 new)

3551 I liked Rhine's relationship with her sister-wives, especially towards the end. I knew that Cecily was willing to be a wife, and Jenna was not, but I didn't get much more than that in the first hundred pages or so of the book. Jenna and Ceicly seemed like opposites to me. I felt like I was finally getting a grasp on their personalities by the end of the book, but by then it just seemed too late.
Rhine (18 new)

3551 I figured she'd wait until she was out in the city to make her first escape attempt. I thought it was pretty dumb of her to just jump out of a window and expect to be able to get away. Also, her escape at the end of the book just seemed way too easy to me. It just felt like they were... let go.
Final Thoughts (16 new)

3551 I thought the book was nice. I liked DeStefano's writing, but at the end of the day I can't see myself reading the rest of the series. I think the relationship with Rhine and Gabriel was a little too convenient, and Gabriel's personality was almost nonexistent.

What I enjoyed the most about the book were the descriptions the author provided of other places, places we didn't really get to see other than in Rhine's own mind. I definitely liked the writing style, but I felt like the characters fell flat. I think it would have been absurd for Rhine to stay with Linden and learn to love him, so I'm glad it ended up how it did. I think that would have felt like defeat to Rhine.

For a while I felt like Rhine was actually going to fall in love with Linden, and that scared me. Even if he was oblivious to the murders of the other girls in the van, He's still holding her against her will (at least, his father is) even if he doesn't realize that. For her to fall in love with him would disturb me greatly.

I had a problem with the world. I just couldn't picture a world where only North America was left intact. It was hard to grasp the concept of this virus staying dormant in someone's system and suddenly coming to life depending on age and gender. I haven't read many books that deal with viruses, so I guess I don't have much to add to that.

I gave it three stars because it was a quick read, had an entertaining premise, and raised some questions for me to ponder (I like when a book does that- it makes me feel like I've learned something).
Linden (23 new)

3551 I felt it hard to believe that he didn't know that the girls were forced to come and be his wives. I would have thought that someone would have told him, eventually. He seemed so oblivious, and it kind of made me sad. Other than that, I never felt I understood his character all that much.

3551 I'm about 75 pages in, and enjoying it. For me, keeping character names and descriptions straight in my mind can sometimes be complicated when there are a lot of them, but I seem to be doing alright so far. I'm reading this right after finishing A Clash of Kings, so I'm just flowing right through this book. Everything seems easier to read after you get done a pretty large novel.

3551 I finally started reading The Hunger Games! I'm about half way through and enjoying it so far.
Introduce Yourself! (2231 new)

3551 Hello, my name is Lorraine. I'm 16 years old and I love reading (although that's basically a given, why would I be here if I didn't?). When I was a kid I read books that I didn't understand, because I didn't know what genre to stick in. Now that I'm a bit older, I'm glad I've found a genre that generally has books that don't confuse me completely but can still challenge me at the same time.

I also enjoy kayaking and hiking and spending time outside. I'm so glad I found a YA book club! I'm going to the library tomorrow to pick up The Perks of Being a Wallflower and some books for the quarterly challenge. To the two people above me- I will definitely check out both of your author pages. :)
