353 Two new HOBBIT movies due for release soon. I wonder how they will compare to JRRT's tale? HOBBIT remains my favourite tale by JRRTT. LOTR series is too much "sword & sorcery" and militarist vs pacifist for me and not enough guile & humour.

353 Keep in mind that creating the various tales were secondary to his day-job as an academic.

353 there must be 1000's of tattoos relating to his works, very rich ground for an artist to draw from. Oops! Pun!

353 Challenge accepted - to a point - Hobbit, yes. Triolgy & the Unfinished Tales, maybe. some of the old tales ie Farmer Giles, yes . I have never read the Silmarillion, Children of Hurin so I will consider them as likely.

353 Every bard gets to edit the tale as it is told & re-told. Perhaps one day Troy shall not burn & the widow Penelope shall wed, Smaug will dine on Hobbit & dwarves, Grendal will tear Beowolf to shreds, Frodo will wear the ring & rule in Mordor & Darth Vadar will welcome his son to the Dark Side.

353 Thanks for the lists. Some new, some old, some I like, some not so much. To each his own.

Larry Niven " Ringworld" "Man-Kzin" series.

Kenneth Grahame "Wind in the Willows" &
J M Barrie "Peter Pan"
classics which rank with the others mentioned above, IMHO.
