Bound South, beginning May 1st. Okay, I put my order in and will have my book in time for the group reading. Thanks for the invite. :-)
Lately I can't stop reading books about King Henry. I don't know what has gotten into me. I realize itis a phase, but since there were so many people back in the English Court, there are a gazillion books to read. Henry, his wives, his children, people that lived in his court, etc. It just goes on and on.

I have been traveling, and had I checked in, I could have read one of these books while waiting around the airport.
So is our group reading, "The Wind Done Gone: A Novel", by Alice Randall?
Crazy Ladies was just too much!!! I really enjoyed both that book and the follow up book, Crazy Girls in Love. Hope you enjoy them. :-)
Jo, I absolutley agree with you that even though Fannie Flagg wrote both the book and screen play for the movie, they seemed as though they were different stories all together. I hope you enjoy the book this time around.
The book potrayed Evelyn as being much unhappier and in a darker place, which is why I was so happy for her when she made such a big transition by the end.
The ending of the book is very different from the movie for Mrs. Threadgoode, but I was okay with that. She was in her own home, which a seems to be very important for a lot of elderly people. She was happy that her "surgote" daughter Evelyn was no longer drifting unhappily through life, but finally seemed settled. Also, her story in the book includes much more of Cleo and her Albert, and her relationships with both always gives me a lump in my throat. I just love them.
Also, I find the minor characters very interesting. The twins, leading such different lives. Big George and Onzell. Sipsey and Naughty Bird. Smokey Lonesome. Seeing how Stump over comes tragic events and becomes a happy adult. I cheer for Peggy every time!!!
Of course, there is the food. While I can see it in the movie, I can almost smell it and taste it from Mrs. Threadgoode's descriptions in the book.
That's one thing I love about FRIED GREEN TOMATOES AT THE WHISTLE STOP CAFE, is all the talk of food.
I enjoy the recipe's at the back of the book and each time I prepare something, I hope it will turn out as well as it does in my imagination.
Oh, I have my favorite authors. Once I like a book by an author, I try to read all of their books. I like to see if they have a certain formula or trait that carries from one book to another. Sometimes there are similarities, and sometimes not.
Fannie Flagg, for example, tends to have a couple of wacky characters mixed in with some down to earth characters. Faith in God and good food seems to pop up in her books also.
I'm not a Southerner and have never been to the South, but when I read GONE WITH THE WIND in high school, I was hooked!!!
Thank you, Jo!!! I am also in my 30's. Single with no children. I love to read. I work in the clerical field. I live in Washington state and have never been to either England or the South, but love reading about them!!! My favorite authors are Jane Austen and Fannie Flagg.
I also enjoy Michael Lee West and Rebecca Wells.
