3159 One way of choosing books might be to base at least one of the picks (of the three) on a current event or an important day. So, for example, one of the July selections could be related to US history. This would be a good time to point out that September 19 is Talk Like a Pirate Day--such a day is just asking for a GoodReviews contest . . .
3159 A short story collection would be nice. Pastoralia, by George Saunders, is a satiric, witty, and yet also a really penetrating insight into contemporary American life.

Does that count as a review? ;)

For non-fiction, Joe Sacco's Palestine is a really different take on "journalism."

For classics, maybe The Moonstone, by Wilkie Collins? This was one of the first detective novels, but a lot of people haven't read it.

3159 I think that is a really neat idea, Matt. Grouping books is the basis of goodreads, anyway--people share books (and group them) so that others can find new titles to read. It might work really well as an off-shoot of the reviews contest. So, for example, what three books would you recommend to other fans of The Great Gatsby? Maybe Bodega Dreams, by Ernesto Quinonez, Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and A Moveable Feast, by Ernest Hemingway. It would be really interesting to see what people recommended and why.
