The later Dresden Files books are pretty good. I'm with you on not being able to read them back to back. The Butcher formula becomes more apparent the closer together you read them. Harry goes without sleep for days, Harry gets into trouble with multiple parties, etc.

I like the Dresden Files but can't read them in rapid succession. Charles de Lint's Newford books are good, especially when the Crow Sisters are involved. Neil Gaiman and China Mieville books automatically end up on my to-read pile.
