Honestly I get almost of my book suggestions from here on the different challenges. Sometimes I will buy books from amazon.com suggestions or the lovevampires.com reviews. Those books I typically buy from on line. Now when I go into a bookstore all bets are off if it has the right cover and a decent title I will browse through it normally I will take a chance on a paperback but if it is hardcover I have to take a look ...to much commitment LOL.Most recent purchases:
Visions of Heatby Nalini Singh
Red-Headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells
Nightwalker by Jocelynn Drake
Howling at the Moon by Karen MacInerney
Tempting Dangerby Eileen Wilks
Black Magic Womanby Justin Gustainis
The Devil Insideby Jenna Black
Dante maybe tragic but I love it LOL. I admit that while I thought Heather was interesting Dante did more for me - FBI profiler and a lead detective?? The only down side was not another Creole vampire and I did not know there was a glossary at the end of the book because there were a few lines that I was clueless. Regardless once I looked past that the book really worked for me. I also liked that there was not a lot of sex but sexual tension and the book was kind of dark. I also like the whole fallen angle I think the only other fantasy book I have seen that is in Richelle Mead's Succubus series. The thing I did appreciate about Heather is fact that she did not fully buy into the vampire world all at once she had to struggle with and I also like that she was so torn between how to save Dante yet she knew he could kill her without even meaning too.
****************SPOILER QUESTION*******************So at the end when Sookie is asking Eric where was he and he responds "your killing me" what does mean? Did I miss something? Was it just the blood bond that he could feel her pain?
Also wow who knew Clancy hated having to guard the human?
New_user I feel the same way imagine my surprise when I found out there are like eight of these books?
This book has the most interesting premise - people control the weather and keeps mother nature from killing people and destroying property. It was also pretty cool that she brought back genies I will not kid you though the flashback scenes while well done I thought it was distracting.
Anyway this was a nice break from vamps and were's. I liked it
Donna wrote: Since Rachel is the one who's currently responding to Al's summoning name, I've been suspecting that Crap-For-Brains will accidentally end up summoning her... That would be classic!
I would love to see Pierce and Rachel run Al and perhaps Newt crazy in the ever after.
LOVE Night huntress series. Michael that is a really interesting point as I sit here and ponder this I think whatever the protagonist was at the start of the book is what they remain.
Outside of Jeanne Stein what about Jennifer Armintrout Blood Ties series she starts out as human right?
I read this book over Christmas so it has been a little time and I may be a bit fuzzy. I really liked the characters in this story, I think this was one of the reasons I loved it. At any rate I loved Con, in the beginning there is not a lot about him but yet I was really into him. Con is not human and does not act like one, this is not a vamp that is beautiful nor does he want to be reminded that he was human, it seems like he is not even interested in Sunshine. Before I get to that part I think it was so interesting at how different the vamps are, it is clear they look different, act different, I think they even hate people (rather humans) at least they have zero motivation to act human. Now back to Sunshine I think it was interesting that they have this time together in the beginning and then for a few months she does not see him, but I think she still thinks of him. Before you know it he is back and like we are bonded and he never makes a move on Sunshine despite the obvious tension which I do not know about you but I thought it was frustrating. And then there is Mel and what do you think about him? Is she cheating because while she is attracted to Con it is not a pleasant thought due to the difference between vamps and humans.
Anyway I could ramble on for days about this book and I am not sure how far people are into it. As for the plot I like that is slow and kind of confusing it feels a bit like realty where you are in each moment.
Michelle M ..I do the same thing LOL especially since my library does not carry a wide selection of anthologies
Dark Heart that is a great title! And I think it is on my TBR list. Anyway as a heads up it is a harpers collins book so you can read the first few chapters online.http://browseinside.harpercollins.com/in...
I have not read this yet (it is on my TBR) and I would like to recommend it is Unclean Spirits: Book One of the Black Sun's Daughter by M.L.N. Hanover
Jennifer I meant the one Gitana posted, I think I will check her website and see if she has the first chapter up yet
Has anyone heard anything about the new book I think it is called Deadly Desires? I wonder what this one will be about?
For the most part I dislike short stories. I will read them but I never buy them and I dislike it when writers try to add what was in the short story into a new novel. For example I liked when Sherrilyn Kenyon had a short story that pertained to her next book so she published the story in the book and in the authors note she tells you to read the story first - Good.
I disliked in White Witch Black Curse when we see Pierce ( I think that is his name) and if you had not read the short story you were like who?? what??
Bad
However, I did think the book Mysteria was interesting I was not familiar with any of the writers when I read it but the stories intertwined with each other and I started reading new authors because of it.
Gitana so you have me thinking I think that Riley series cannot be called erotica at all because only a few books have a lot of sex in them. At the same time it is really interesting and good to know what is erotica and I think I just like urban fantasy with a little PNR.
At any rate these questions got me thinking so I did a little google search and it turns out KA answered the question for us.

Urban Fanasy
In short Usually written in the first person. Theme is horror, not love. A single protagonist often narrates the entire series. (Kelly Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld is a notable exception). The protagonist is often a cynical, fiercely independent, tough chick with commitment and trust issues. lol. (Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden is a notable exception.) There may be a love interest, but it is subtle and may build over the course of the series. Or maybe the more the merrier, a la Anita Blake.
Examples: Laurell K Hamilton’s Antia Blake series, Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels’s series, Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series, Kelly Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld series, Kim Harrison’s Rachel Morgan series, Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden series, Marjorie M. Liu’s Maxine Kiss series, Keri Arthur’s Riley Jensen series, Karen Chance’s Cassandra Palmer series, Jeanine Frost’s Night Huntress series
Paranormal Romance:
Usually written in the 3rd person. Main characters are Hero and Heroine and they MUST have a happily ever after together. This couple is exclusive. Love shall overcome is the theme. Each book in the series has a new hero/heroine pair, and these characters often show up as secondary characters in the other books in the series.
Examples: JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood, Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changelings series, Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series, Marjorie M. Liu’s Dirk & Steele series, Meljean Brooks’ Guardian series, Lori Handeland’s Nightcreature series , Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breeds series, Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series, Alexis Morgan’s Paladins of Darkness series,
I agree with Gitana that is more urban fantasy but there should be erotica somewhere in the classification
I think I just love the whole world. I love that it is all gray and you can have someone allegedly doing something to benefit man kind yet it is really evil and then you can have someone doing evil but it is really for the good. And Jenks is GREAT
honestly there are not a lot of female protagonist out there they still tend to be some dudes side kick.I like it when the protagonist male or female know their limits. Like Mercy, Sookie, Kitty or Dresdin
I am a huge library girl so don't have any to trade but have you tried paperbackswap.com I have a lot of luck with them.My name is eye-luv-2-read
