I think women are better readers. Its been proven that women tend to have a larger vocabulary than men. Also, I think that reading is considered a more "feminine" hobby so we are more likely to do it. My husband hasn't read a book the entire time we've been together (4 years). I've must have read at least 100 since then.
Teri-Thank you for the bookmark and gift card. My husband has banned me from buying new books so the card is greatly appreciated!!!
I mailed mine out yesterday. I hope it gets there before tomorrow. Sorry if it doesn't!!
I haven't received mine yet either. :( At least I haven't had it sitting around torturing me.
Gabriel Garcia Marquez is Colombian in case anyone was wondering.
Dominican- Junot Diaz "The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao"
Another Brazilian is Paulo Coehlo. He has written some amazing books. "The Alchemist" & "Veronika Decides to Die."
Anything on my "want to read" list. The books on my TBR list are ones that I already own and just haven't read yet!
For me, it is usually determined on what my book club is reading, what we are reading for CoL or what books have finally come in to the library for me to pick up. If I'm not reading any of those, I stare at my bookself until something jumps out at me.
Thanks guys! I'm so excited. I've been wanting to do it for years and now its finally a good time to start.
My big adventures this year... Well I'm graduating college in May and will start looking for a new job. Also, I begin training to be a CASA volunteer on Thursday so that should be interesting!
"CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system or languish in an inappropriate group or foster home. They stay with each case until it is closed, and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many abused children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence—the one adult who cares only for them." from www.nationalcasa.org
I read The Lovely Bones awhile ago but I remember really liking it. I do agree that there were a few instances that didn't feel quite right but overall the story really got to me.
Kate-I also agree that Lucky is definitely Sebold's best book so far. I recently finished The Almost Moon and HATED it! I had absolutely no sympanthy for the main character and couldn't have cared less what had happened to her. She was a horrible person!
None! i didn't get a darn book but I have so many to read that it's probably better that way. I did give my sister the new Stephen King though.
START- working towards goals that I have been slacking on.
START- taking better care of myself and my family.
START- living more in the present without losing sight of the future.
I love AK! I agree that the political parts are very boring but the story between Anna and Vronsky is worth it. But I have always found Russian history to be fascinating.
