I'm a faithful Nintendo DS user. Love the portability of it and if sales are going on at stores, I can get some good deals.
I was recently turned on to Farmville in Facebook. That kind of geekiness is right up my alley.
Hobby Lobby is notorious for putting their Christmas stuff out in July! Crazy! And not just the crafty stuff.
You just have to weed the good from the bad.
This happens with any hugely popular book. Harry Potter spawned many knock-offs. As did Dan Brown's books. Also vampire stories from the popularity of Twilight.
Sure these types of stories were written before but not with the mass "hysteria" following a successful book or series.
Jo - I'll have to look for that Garden Trilogy. Looked on B&N to see what it was about and it sounds fun! Love me some ghost stories (scary and non). Thanks for the suggestion!
Anything to do with witches for me. I just went to Salem so I've got witches on the mind. I finally picked up the Three Sister's Island trilogy by Nora Roberts. Not really Halloween-y and not scary by any means. Just some romance-y chick lit about witches. Just what I need. Too much heavy reading lately.

Nope. If I usually don't finish a book/give up on a book there is no way I'll pick it up again.
Of course there are situations where I've put a book away because it just wasn't what I wanted to read at the time (chick lit vs. horror story and so on). Then I'll go back to that book at a different time.
NOw there have been times where I want to give up on a book and don't for whatever reason. Last book like that was Book Thief. It came so highly recommended and when I finally got it, I was annoyed by the writing style/narration. I almost dropped it but did stick with it. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo glad I did. Best book this year.
Wasn't a fan of the book but I did finish it and did enjoy several parts. I guess I wasn't a fan of Skeeter. She didn't come across as real for me.
I enjoyed all parts with Minny, Hilly and Celia though. I wish more of the book was about them.
I don't have that many...only books that came as recommendation usually. I have many to-read books but they are all at home and I don't want to list each one in here. My list would be LONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It really depends. Sometimes it is right away if the writing is terrible and the characters absolutely annoying (those are the books that go in the trash).
Other times it is maybe 100+ pages into the book. There really is no set amount I guess. I just "know".
Sometimes I do stick it out like The Book Thief. I just didn't like how it was narrated originally but I'm so glad I stuck with it.
It's a gamble when I do stop reading a book.
Well number one can be accomplished with The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde. It is a series of books with one of the most interesting premise I've read in some time.
As for it being beautiful writing? I don't know about that!
Glad to hear you liked Blind Assassin. I couldn't finish it. I haven't given up on it but I had to put it down since it wasn't want I wanted/needed to read at the time.
Mainly at home or during lunch at work when it is poor weather or I'm that captivated by a book.
I will take my book practically everywhere I go because one never knows when downtime will occur!
I guess I'm in the minority. I just finished it and I'm all meh on it. I didn't like Skeeter at all. Minny and Hilly and Celia were great characters. Overall the story was interesting but the ending was so blah. To me there really wasn't an ending to the book.
This may have suffered though because I started this after reading The Book Thief and I have to say that was one of the BEST books I read in awhile. I may still have been thinking about that story while trying to read this.
I still think I wouldn't have liked Skeeter either way though. Oh well.
"its her next book after The Traveler's Wife!! "
Sounded promising but the book description gave me a headache.
1. Are you careful with the spines? Or do you crack your books open to make them lay flat?
-I'm a cracker. I always feel like I won the book lottery when I find books without cracked spine at a thrift store.
2. Do you use bookmarks? Or do you dog-ear the corners? If you do use bookmarks, do you use those fashionable metal ones? Or paper?
-Bookmarks: whatever paper I find handy. I used to dog-ear but I hated it when my page un dog-ears itself
so I stopped it.
3. Do you write in your books? Ever? If you do, do you make small marks, or write in as much blank space as you can find? Pen or pencil? Highlighter? Your name on the front page?
-NEVER NEVER NEVER only because I'm reading for fun. Not for discussion/school/bookclub, etc.
4. Do you toss your books on the floor? Into book bags? Or do you treat them tenderly, with respect?
-Not much of a tosser. I can't say I respect them because I've been known to use them as coasters for food and drinks. DOH!
5. Do you ever lay your book face-down, to save your place?
Rarely. I'm a bookmark gal to save page.
6. Do you bathe with your books? Hold them with wet hands? Read out in the rain? Anything of that sort?
-Nope
7. Are your books lined up on a bookshelf? Or crammed in any which way? Stacked on the floor?
Lined on shelf. Newly purchased ones that don't fit tend to be crammed in. Others stacked in baskets. All these books are to be read.
8. Do you make a distinction--in regards to book care--between hardcovers and paperbacks?
-Prefer paperbacks because they are lighter and also cheaper.
9. Naturally, you love all of your books, but how, exactly? Are your books loved in the battered way of a well-loved teddy bear, or like a cherished photo album or item of clothing that's used, appreciated, but carefully cared for?
I use them and then give them away! That shows my love for a good book if I pass it on. If it was a sucky book, it goes back to thrift store for someone else to buy. A very VERY good book stays with me (not many make get that honor).
I'm one of the few that did not like Outlander. It came so highly recommended by so many that I figured I had to love it, too. I read it and while I did finish it, it wasn't nearly as great as everyone said it was. Maybe my expecations were so high.
I wasn't going to waste my money buying the others but then I found them at a thrift store (book 2, 3 and 4 I believe) so I'll give them another try. If on book 2, I still don't like it, I'll ditch all other copies.
