Our supervisor purchased the books and we are having a small profressional development group on it. I haven't finished it yet, but it seems to have good ideas and it is grounded in solid research. We are going to try some of the strategies and talk about how it worked. If you are interested I can let you know how things go.

I was definitely disturbed by her attempt to "rekindle" her love story at the expense of her daughter. I did enjoy Martin though:)

I felt that way too. I was raving about it until the end and then I felt very unsettled by it.

I was just thinking about this book today. I haven't read it because it seems pretty heavy, but I saw it listed in the back of this books called Readicide today as popular books for reluctant readers. I know you like it, but do you feel weighed down by it?

How did you like Memory of Running? I have had that for several years and never seem to get to it. Should I..."
It's good so far, but I am only 50 pages into it. I'll let you know when I finish.
Nancy wrote: "Ok, I've had "Pillars of the Earth" on the pile for a couple months and just not gotten around to it. Don't know where I've missed it, but read that someone is doing a mini-series of it, filmed in..."
Oh, I didn't know that either. I am slowly reading it. I am on page 50. I hope I'll be done by then... I have a little less than a year. I think I can do it. Anyway, thanks for sharing.
I am reading Poison Study by Maria Snyder, slowly chipping away at The Pillars of the Earth and just started Hot Six by Janet Evanovich.

I really liked this book as well, Brenda. "
It really was thought provoking."
Oh! I saw your review. I really think I need to pick this book up soon!
I am still sorting through my feelings about the end. Something is not settling right, but I haven't quite figured it out yet. Hmm, maybe I'll work through it in this discussion. Overall, I did enjoy the book though.
Mary wrote: "Thanks, Vicki! That is helpful.I also did not particularly like The Time Traveler's Wife, so am hesitant to try something else by Audrey Niffenegger. I think I will give it a shot though."
I did get it from the library. I couldn't pay the price since I didn't like the first one much, that curbed the blow if it didn't work out. I am glad I tried it though.
Mary wrote: "I am undecided about this one. Opinions, please! Spoilers OK with me."
I am not finished yet, but I have 50 pages to go. As I said on the other thread, I am one of the very few people that did not really like Time Traveler's Wife. I didn't hate it but I guess I was looking for something more.
I gave this one a try because the premise looked interesting and I really enjoy it. The writing intrigued me, its centered around a cemetery in London and it is to a degree a ghost story. I like the intricate relationships between the two sets of twins and there are a few surprises in the last 100 pages that for me changed how I read the book a bit. It's written through various perspectives. I have heard a few people say that they don't particulary like many of the characters, and while most of them are not lovable, I feel they are varied and have something about them that make them interesting to read about. Overall, I think it's worth it and when I finish if I have anything to add I will.
Hope that helps!
Carrie wrote: "Ok, I could NOT get into The Hunger Games. Am I the only one??
I tried...so hard..."
No, I actually saw your review on my feed and I was like really.... I say this because I read the first 100 pages and put it down. I can't completely say I wouldn't love it if I try again, it was the end of the school year for me, but I wasn't captivated like everyone else.
So no, you are not alone, but I think we might be the only two....
Karla, I am almost done, last 50 pages. I still really like it. Unfortunately though, I was definitely in the minority with Time Traveler's Wife, though and didn't click with that one, despite that I am glad I gave this one a shot.
Elizabeth, I didn't read that book, but there are some interesting twists in this one. In fact, it's gotten a bit strange, hope it holds up well at the end.

What do you think so far? I am almost to page 300 and enjoying it!
I also am slowly starting The Pillars of the Earth, though I feel I may still be reading it in June, I loved the first 20 pages though.

I like Martin too. I just read where he and Julia had tea. I feel that part moved his character forward. I do like it so far also.
Cindy wrote: "I agree...about Gargoyle being great and awesome! And Vicki, I almost splurged and bought Her Fearful Symmetry the other day. Anxious to see what you think!!"
I got lucky, I put it on hold right before my library got it in and I ended up with it first. I thought there would definitely be a waiting list. Anyway, I am a little over a hundred pages into it and I am really enjoying it so far. Great writing and an interesting array of characters.
I am finally reading Dead Until Dark and A Girl Made of Dust by Nathalie Abi- Ezzi. Two very different books!
