Franklin, I had to smile seeing your post. And I too wish there were more gay male centered sci fi books were the main characters aren't always going at it throughout the whole storyline :) One of the reasons I have to add some 'boring' mainstream sci fi into my read list (among other genres). There is simply too much sex in some of these books! Ha! Now I totally sound like a prude! Which of course, I am (not :) But, I'm sure we aren't alone in wishing some authors would focus more on the stories than the sex. We are just not the majority audience for this genre to really impact it yet...I'm thinking.

As for whole gay male author debate...I agree with Charming comments. And really, great authors are great authors...doesn't matter their gender...and even in this smaller sub-genre you can usually see which authors took time with their subject(s) and those who didn't (i.e. just made a quickie gay sex book) whether they are male author or a female one. That's why I created this group way back when...to help everyone find those really good books (and authors)!

Oh, btw, not all 'quickie gay sex' books are bad :)

28965 Hi. I'd love to have one. M/M SF is my favorite genre. Thanks.K.B. wrote: "I have ten free codes for the audio edition of the Dreamcatcher Fallacy, narrated by Gregory Peyton. Holler back if you would like one--Gregory does an amazing job, acting the voices rather than a..."

Excellent! I just finished Wool, Shift, and now working on Dust...so, this is perfect timing for me to read your books. Already purchased the audiobook version of Runner...looking forward to reading/hearing it later this week...and reading the rest of your books. Thanks for the post!

28965 Hi Johnny. I would love to listen as well. GSF audio books are so hard to find...so, count me in :)

I was so excited when this hit my goodreads gay audible alert....a gay scifi audiobook...you don't know how rare this is! Like Charming said, it's very welcomed. Btw, Charming, sorry to be so MIA...you are so so much better at this than I ever was with this group! And yes, I'm still around ;) barely ;) Message me if you need anything...

;) got a good laugh at that one

Charming...let me know how the poll goes...since the result are hidden. Also, unknown how to make a multiple choice poll. FYI: Don't worry too much about it...as I think Tribbles are fine until we come up with a really good one...

Ryan....sounds very interesting. Can you place it in the Author thread as well as the book shelf so others can find it easier. Thanks for the note.

Don't worry if we don't find a better one...will keep the tribbles..as I'm sure a couple were gay ;)

Yikes, I had to ask my hubby (who's a Twilight fan) what that image meant. He laughed. I still don't understand ;) Anyhoo...can't use it as those are vampires...and I don't think either had a scifi plot ;)

28965 Hi all. Since I put up the silly Capitan Kirk with Tribbles image on the creation of this group, I've been wanting to change it...eventually. I do think it's funny, though I'm pretty sure Capitan Kirk wasn't gay or even bi and I have no idea the sexual orientation of the Tribbles ;) Hence, I'm thinking it's time to change it. So, I'm putting it out there...what should it be? I think you can place hyperlinks to images on the web...so do so and we will all vote on the best three. Best NOT be from a book cover or something known to be copy written. Also, I think something not to sexual either...maybe two guys and a space alien? :) Let me know.

28965 Hello All: well Charming, mm_reads and others are certainly doing a great job on the shelves and other things. Thanks for all their hard work and help!

Two comments per the discussion above. First: I made this group for the sole reason for people to find gay male homosexual related content science fiction books. I know people might like to add a bunch of additional things (like lesbian, diversity, etc) to the group...but when I started this group on Goodreads pretty much all those groups were already around. And I made one that wasn't: a gay male scifi group. Simple as that. I thought there was a need for a little more clarity. There was (and should still be) a gay women (or lesbian) scifi related group, also a main 'queer' scifi group (which includes both gay and lesbian) already on goodreads. Hence, I hope we don't start duplicating other groups people can join to get a more 'general' or broad genre. That would kinda go against why I start this group in the first place. So, my two cents is to make sure all the sub categories still fit in the overall theme of the group. Gay male (meaning homosexual) related science fiction.

Secondly: my thought is not to make a ton (like over 20) new sub cats since it might confuse new members more than help. I guess I'm not the type would likes to divide things too narrowly...as then I start to zone out with all the different choices ;) but maybe that's just me.

Ok, again thanks all for helping make this a better group for the members!

28965 zeke, hmmm...I think you know what I meant ;) But just to be really clear: people who write gay scifi themed books.

28965 This is where gay scifi authors can tell us about their new works!

28965 Hi. Sounds fine by me...I'll make asap.

28965 mm_reads, my thoughts are the more cats the better...since books can be placed on as many cats across the shelf that they fit. Overall, we shouldn't think too hard or be TOO picky as I think most members just 'stop by' the group to see if what to read next and don't spend a lot of time here. Hence, read: it's not a big deal. ;) I do wish authors of books would type in bold text on their covers what cat their books fit in...but I don't think the universe places books (and people and other things for that matter) in neat totally 100% true categories anyway.

Why don't we make some theme shelves as you suggested and maybe a hard scifi one as well (I'd like that one) and see how it runs for a couple of months? then do some follow up organizing if need be.

Oh, also, I know a number of members on another thread like to read non-eroctic gay scifi (meaning no sex but same sex relationship involved and supported)...so we should make a shelf for that as well.

Why do you think?

28965 Charming, thank you for your work and help. I'm sure it will help a lot!
As they mentioned, everyone should help organze the books into the correct category if you have some extra time on your hands. Esp. for the books you've added yourself. I (and they) simply haven't read all these books and don't know where they fit.

AS for the whole bisexual discussion (read: MMF), the only reason I added that to the 'realm' of the group is many great scifi gay books had a scene or two of MMF action (or the such). And many members mentioned this at first...hence I added. In reality, it's not my thing...but it's also not a big deal...since with any book, you can just skip over that part ;) Now with Charming's sub cats you can tell right away if that book has any MMF in it...helpful I think...

Cheers.

28965 Btw, this is the thread where everyone should discuss new sub categories and such :)

28965 Hi everyone. I have added Charming and mm_reads as moderators as well...to help with the book shelf organizing. Hopefully, they (and I) can figure out a way to make the shelf better categorized. Btw, my own thoughts are its fine to add a bunch of sub categories since it will make it easier (and faster) for people to fine new books they are most interested in. BUT I do wish to stay in the gay (MM or MMF) scifi genre only. Fantasy/horror/steampunk etc. I don't really think fit this group's topic (and there are other group for those)...but hey, if one of new mods want to add a sub cat for those...go ahead...as it won't hurt anything...and for those interested in those topics...can find them here as well...besides...I think some of the books already on the shelf should be re-placed in those sub cats as they not strictly scifi.

Last note, if anyone else wants to be a moderator...just add me as a friend and write a message along with that (since I think only friends can PM me) and I'll add you. :) Have fun.

28965 Hi guys. Sorry I was away. Just saw this thread. Being a bad moderator I know ;) So, I though members could set up sub shelf, but alas maybe not. We could certainly use some organizing in the shelves...and I don't have enough time to do it...so I would love any help. I guess I need to see how to add moderators to the group...who wishes to help? Just write here on this thread and I'll invite you. I assume Charming and mm_reads would like to be added? Let me know...

Btw, dont' know why I'm not getting private messages...must be a setting I did when setting up my account...I'll check into it.
