"It's perfect. I don't know how I can thank you," he says, looking at the cover's inside. It said "Make your mark upon the world and don't apologize for it. -Carolina." "You can thank me by filling every single gold page," I say, smiling. I see his face turn its attention to me. He moves his hand to my neck, tilts his head and kisses me. Familiar smells and tastes occur. It's a sweet kiss. One that puts me at ease because it says that there will be many after. Passionate, hungry kisses and gentle kisses. It's a promise.
"Thank you." We say in unison.
As he gently opened the wrapper I see his curiosity growing. The blue cover and gold ink are revealed. He flips the pages and I can see the awe on his face. It's a composition book. "I know how much you love your music. I thought you'd like this." I say as his face shows what I can imagine mine looked like when he gave me my gift.
I shake my head, steadying myself. "Here's your present," I say, taking it out of my coat, putting it in his hands. I grin just thinking about him opening it.
"Why...thank you, Charlie. Thank you so much. I don't..." I say, staring at the book. "It's not a big deal." He says, pulling a stray hair away from my face and tucking it behind my ear. Warmth pools into my stomach nervously. I stare at his hazel eyes for a long moment.
As I slowly open the wrapping paper, I gasp. No...it couldn't be...As I flip open the pages I see the publication year of Pride and Prejudice.
"A first edition copy?" I say, "How..."
"That's not all," he smiles, leaning in closer to me, flipping through a few more pages. I stare.
There, hand written, is Jane's Austen's name.
"Signed? First copy signed? How did you get your hands on this?" I ask, amazed. He laughs at my expression.
"I have a friend whose a book store owner. He gave me it for a bargain."
"I'm alright. Happy about Christmas. You?" I say, sitting down on the white bench surrounding by bare trees. "Content. Been thinking about my future, and I still don't know what to do," he sighs. "But never mind, here's your present," he grins, putting it into my lap, golden wrapping paper, medium sized. I'm intrigued.
(Oo Chris Crutcher! Good choice. :D)"Fine by me," I say, "Shall we, Mr. Williams?" I walk down the stairs, grab my coat with his present in it, and walk out the back door to the backyard.
(Allie, do you want to play Charlie? Completely your choice.)
(Oh I think I've heard of that one! Really? Pride and Prejudice is BEAUTIFUL! Fun, witty and romantic! I had no trouble reading it.)
(Your friend. What did she pick? And you.)He smiles happily. "I'm glad you approve. Also, I came by to give Miss Doyle her present. Would you both mind if I stole her for a moment?" He said. I could feel myself blush, eager to see him alone, the present no where on my mind.
