*snickers* Lestat has one of those 3 or 4 part names too, but I don't have a copy of the book to look it up.
There's this quote from one of my old day planners, "Imaginary men are my favorite kind of men."
I cannot image being a reader and not falling for characters in books!
My off-the-top-of-my-head list:
1. Phedre no Delaunay de Montreve from the Kushiel's Legacy series by Jacqueline Carey. She's an amazing, brilliant, strong female character.
2. Mr. Darcy - Who didn't love Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice? I think he is almost some sort of universal ideal.
3. Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West in the book Wicked by Gregory Maquire - Another strong female protagonist who made the book for me.
4. Daemon de Santi from Anne Bishop's The Black Jewel trilogy - I loved these books. I loved Daemon! ...loved? lusted? obsessed? All yes!
5. Harriot the Spy - I wanted to be Harriot in 6th grade.
6. Louis Pointe du Lac from Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire - I loved, loved Louis and hated Lestat when I read this book in high school. Then...
7. Lestat in The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice - I read this book and saw how whiny Louis really was and how much Lestat rocked! Then seeing Stuart Townsend play Lestat on the big screen sealed the deal on my love affair with the character. (Sorry Tom Cruise o_o )
All right, while I am sure I could think up more with time, this is my Off-the-top-of-my-head list.
I loved both the book and the movie for The Hitchhiker's Guide too! It's been a really long time since I've read the book though.
I can add the Bladerunner/Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? to my list as well. Because I liked the movie, I decided to read the book. After all, the book is always better.
All right, I finished the book. I'm glad I read it even if at times I struggled with it. I feel I know Mr. Rogers better and love him all the more for it. He was a beautiful soul.
It's sitting here waiting for me to open it, but I'm reading two books right now already. It may have to wait a little longer.
The first example I can think of is The Shining. I remember watching The Shining on tv, the Saturday Night Movie, when I was in 8th grade. I decided I had to read the book. For the next few years I devoured almost everything Stephen King wrote.
In more recent years, I read Practical Magic and Memoirs of a Geisha after I saw the movies. I wanted to read Memoirs long before the movie came out but just didn't get around to it until after it was out on dvd. As anyone who knows me knows, my to be read list is exhaustively long.
