Thanks Marie, NZ is pretty cool... or at least just pretty. There's amazing stuff going on with the reinvigoration of Te Reo Maori, but some school teachers, like the ones i had back in the day, seem resentful of having to recognise it as a 'real' language. i'm not sure quite what you mean, but i'm a writer (poetry mostly - feel fre to ridicule)and everything is so fucking insular... i dunno, maybe other places are the same, but univertites here are insular and seem to be intelectually isolated. However i don't really know what the rest of the world is like, so there's no relativity in my judgements. sigh. angst. et cetera.
ONe only has to look at what "english only" policies have done to indigenous comunities the world over... I for one wish that i'd been tought Maori at school (down here in little old New Zealand... it's that coffee stain in the corner of your world map)
I speak predominantly english myself, but i totaly agree with Marie - forcing ones own monoligualism on a bunch of kids out of some wierd desperation to monopolise power seems to me to be unethical behaviour. Language and cultura go hand in hand, and any forced supresion of that is bound to have negative consiquences. you don't need to enforce an "english only" policy were there isn't one in order to teach, in fact if teachers allow the use of multiple languages it is, i think, likley to be benificial. the teacher may learn somthing herself.
That stuff is awesome... people who write things like "drink's for only $3" tend to piss me off, but on the whole when people write stupid things i find it exiting..... there may be something seriously wrong with me.check out p 11 & 12 of this pdf for fucked up writing... "manic typo mutherfucker":

Logan recomended the Ruby Suns, who are fantastic... and Flight of the Choncords. I like that people like New Zealand Stuff. Check out the Tiger Tones for lovely pop-ness.tangent of music stuff....noisey wierdness - Nurse With Wound, Peter Wright, Coil. Om, Six organs of admitance, Earth... all different-ish kinda stuff.
