26989 Hi Anyta,

When I first started writing Beckoning Light , it took some time to get into the male voice, but it just got easier and more natural with time. As with all characters, I think the authenticity was strengthened by loosely basing the voice on people I know. As I work on the second book in the trilogy, I actually find writing from Kevin's (the brother's)perspective is at times easier than writing from the female perspective.

Many male readers have given me positive feedback about Kevin, and say that he seems very real.

26989 Hey Todd and Anyta,

Interesting discussion. My book is written from the perspective of a boy and a girl (brother and sister) and it has been interesting getting feedback on which narrator a reader connected with more. I have to agree with you Anyta, that girls seem very flexible.

Yeah, this is really interesting, I think. From my experience, boys TEND to prefer reading books written from a boy's perspective, but girls are more flexible, reading from either.

26989 Hi, I'm Alyssa Rose Ivy and I have a new YA Fantasy novel out.

Beckoning Light (The Afterglow Trilogy) by Alyssa Rose Ivy
Beckoning Light

As Charlotte steps through the gate, she has a strong feeling that nothing will ever be the same again.

Moving back to South Carolina after three years away, Charlotte knows she’s going to have to face people from her past and adjust to a new high school, but she’s completely unprepared for what else waits for her in Charleston.

Drawn through an old garden gate, Charlotte discovers a hidden world where she meets Calvin, a boy to whom she is inexplicably attracted. As Charlotte is pulled deeper into this hidden world, it’s up to her older brother Kevin to rescue her. No matter how hard Kevin tries, the rescue depends upon Charlotte fighting her intense feelings for Calvin while mastering a set of abilities that she has only just discovered she possesses.

Thanks!

Reading these posts has been great, there are so many books I'll have to check out!
