233 I was wondering if Elizabeth Alexander might have been cold, and thus kept her speech pace moderate in order that she not stumble over her words. I know that when I am cold my lips and face tend to not work well and I mumble or stumble on my words. She may also have been dragging out the words because of reverb from the sound system.

Did you know that Yo-Yo Ma, Perlman, and the other members of the quartet were "synching" to a recording? In an interview with Ma on NPR he disclosed that the performance had to be synched because the extreme cold wouldn't allow the instruments to be played properly.

So I'm thinking that Ms. Alexander was just about frozen and was going slowly so that she would give a solid performance. :-)

233 Hi Amanda. Gorgeous books. I love handmade books.

233 Hi Wes. I enjoyed this. The images are abstract, which causes me to dig a bit deeper into my subconcious to sort them out, a bit farther into the dream realm. The lines scan well for me. I personally don't want this to make sense. This is the sort of poem in which I get to see you "spending too much time" in your mind. I get to see the circuits that fire when your creativity gets going. Well done.

233 I can find lots of books that teach traditional poetry forms. Does anyone know of good ones that teach ghazals, pantoums, villanelles, and other non-traditional forms? I'm trying to stretch myself. I wrote my first villanelle in Sept. using Bugeja's Craft of Poetry as a guide. And I love Marilyn Hacker's book that has only villanelles in it (can't remember the title).

233 Thanks for this suggestion, Nina. To date, I have rarely seen a book specifically dedicated to revision. I'll have to check this one out.
