Trees
I seek now forgiveness,
for I have cut down trees.
I did it without feeling.
I did it with such ease.
When taken down to molecules,
they really are no different.
But I assumed them foreign to me,
And not from my own stream.
They stood there, let me cut them,
my chainsaw buzzing loudly.
These mighty oak, these stately beech, and these honest ash,
I butchered them all unthinking.
If I might be forgiven,
for this deed without honor,
then I will vow to love all trees,
to love them as they’re living.
