We're talking about the third installment, right? Because some of the stuff Denae mentioned happened in the second book.I'd like to see Erec get a little smarter and a little more curious. Thus far, he's pretty much accepting things at face value. But, he is learning that things aren't always what they seem. He just doesn't take time to analyze what's happening around him and putting two and two together. Of course, that's typical of most 13 year old boys and that's part of what I like about Erec. He just needs to learn to use critical thinking skills.
Of course, Kaza has a magical world that's modern. That's probably what makes the Erec Rex series stand out. In Harry Potter and most other fantasies, the magical world is frozen in an archaic medieval mode. Does that even make any sense? Wouldn't there be progress even in the realm of magic? In Narnia (or Harry Potter), why should the characters have to walk from a modern world to one where the chief mode of transportation is a horse or dragon or whatever? Whatever it is, Alypium is not a medieval world.
