229 It's been a tough year for comics all around. With the disappointing conclusion to Secret Invasion it's starting to feel like Marvel is resting on its laurels this year after a number of interesting experiments over the last decade.

But on a personal level there's always going to be a moment when you realize that Superheroes are a genre where they never get older but you inevitably do...

229 His stuff can be uneven sometimes, but he's willing to get in and mess around in the underpinnings of an ongoing, established universe the way Alan Moore isn't, and he's way more prolific. But if he doesn't reach the same heights, who can blame him?

If you want to read some high points of his Superhero stuff I'd recommend his transformative work on JLA back at the end of the 90s, along with the current run on All-Star Superman, which may well be some of the best work he's ever done. There's also a lot to like about his Doom Patrol series, although you'll probably get the "not as good as Alan Moore" feeling while you're reading.

The Filth was pretty good as well, managing to tell a focused coherent story that, in my opinion, outshone the mess that marred the end of the Invisibles series.
