Unfortunately Danish publishers are notorious for splitting books up in several parts when translating. Last I heard, we weren't supposed to combine "parts" with the "whole" book? I.e. "Name of the Wind #1" and "Name of the Wind #2" should not be combined with "Name of the Wind - full".
Alas, well-meaning librarians have been combining these Danish editions, so I have to go separate them every couple of months - something which is getting rather tedious.
So, just to make sure I'm not making a mistake here - I'm correct in saying that these editions should not be combined, right?
And if so, is there any way I can leave a comment on the combining page? (Like the one here: http://www.goodreads.com/book/combine/10...) I've tried leaving comments on the book itself, but that doesn't seem to make a difference.
As another Dane, I very strongly agree with Christina Stind :)vicki_girl wrote:A word of caution though, sometimes books get broken into multiple volumes in different languages...."
This happens a lot in Danish (especially fantasy books and books from small publishers) and is SUCH a nuisance. For books like that I tend to add the English version as well, just so that I can see what other people think of the book. Because of this I'm REALLY looking forward to the "Is contained in" combination feature that has been discussed.
How come I can't delete this book: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/19779... ?It only has 4 reviews, so it shouldn't need a super librarian to do so?
Anyway, could somebody please delete it. I added it by mistake, and the author asked me to take it down, as it isn't ready to be published yet. Thank you.
mlady_rebecca, with that wording I totally agree ("I wish I could say..." - emphasis mine). If it's a personal option and not a site-wide option then I'd be all for it :)
Geediez, as long as people are voting for them, hiding the quotes would be censorship, and I'd be VERY uncomfortable if GR started practising that. I agree with Rivka - Twilight is a fad. Eventually something new and more exciting will come along.
I believe http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/28343... should be deleted. It has no ISBN, has been added manually and appears to be an exact match of http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/33184... However, it has 18 reviews, so I can't delete it myself.
"Who needs a hobby like tennis or philately? I've got a hobby: rereading Lady Chatterley."(can't do the cool notes though)
mlady_rebecca, I think the general consensious (okay, so I can't spell that word :-/ ) is to list the author of the Bible and similar works as "Various".
Rivka and Petra, that's the workaround I've been using too, but for authors with as many books as Morris, it's still easy to miss books that way, rather than if I could use the build-in search.
*An hour and a half later*Phew! I think I got all of them. I decided to make Morris primary author as that seemed most natural, seeing as he's been part of most of them.
I've combined several... I think I got all the English and French and most German, but somebody else should probably take a look at the Spanish, Italian as well as all the German I missed.
I really, really, REALLY hope Otis'll be able to make the "two phrase search" for combining. It'll make it SO much easier to be able to search for the same title in two languages at once.
Rene Goscinny and Morris are in need of more help than I can give them. They're the author/drawer of Lucky Luke and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to combine them. How does combining books with multiple authors listed work? Can I only combine them if both authors are listed and in the same order?
