220 How about writing competitions? I'm inclined to include them in this award feature as there are some competitions in Indonesia that are prestigious and the winners are great books. But I'm wondering what everybody else thinks about this.

220 Okay, thanks, Rivka!

220 Has there been any conclusion about this issue? Should we list translated part-books together or separately with the original whole-books?
220 By the way, Rivka, what do you mean with "book records"? I think I've been away from this group for too long!
220 Other Indonesian librarians and I have been working together on organizing books in Indonesian. We have instructions and consensus posted in our group. If you need anything else, just let me (us) know.

220 Please delete this Indonesian edition: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21...

I've separated the editions with the rest.

220 Oh, what a relief! Thanks, Amang.

220 I just merged two author profiles, i.e. Habiburrahman El Shirazy (http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/... ) and Habiburrahman El-Shirazy (http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/... ). I changed deleted the hyphen in the second one. Unfortunately, when the two profiles are merged, all the data in the first profile is erased. Is there any way to restore this data?

220 Or maybe you could post the problem in the Indonesia group as well? Maybe we Indonesians can all coordinate a project together, for organizing translated books.

220 Astrid Lindgren's list of works is still a mess, if anyone wants to work on that.

220 I agree with Anna, I would just leave the title in the original language. For example, there are a lot of Indonesian titles now in the database, with descriptions in Indonesian.
220 I think it really is up to you, whatever you have the time for. That's what I do, anyway. When I have time, I work through all an author's book, with google's translator open in another tab, to combine the German/Spanish/French titles. For Agatha Christie, I even have Wikipedia open, because many of her stories have several titles. But sometimes I combine only a couple of titles, leaving the translated titles for another day.

I think, any act of combining, whether it is one title or one author, helps.

220 Yes, that's what I did.

220 I've encountered the same thing in Enid Blyton's books. The Indonesian publisher have used two different covers for the same ISBN, probably changing them so as to adjust to the changing readers' taste.

220 Ah, I see. I thought that was just a way to navigate between editions, not to transfer ratings. Thanks, Otis!

220 I was just about to ask the same question. It would be neat if we could transfer our ratings and reviews from one edition to another. I rated/reviewed the wrong edition of many books when I started out. I really would like my reviews reflect which edition I actually read.

220 Sometimes I find these while combining editions. It is okay to delete them, right?

220 Maybe Five is on to something. So far the discussion has been about how different one translation is from another, or a translation from the original, which is difficult to tell unless we've had a chance to read and compare them.

But after reading Five's post, perhaps we should have one rule for modern books (especially novels), and another rule for ancient writings, such as Dante and Homer, as some people have mentioned, but more importantly, religious books like the Qur'an or the Bible. For these kinds of books, certainly translations matter a great deal, and should be kept separate.
