220 Ben Winters should be merged into Ben H. Winters.

220 I don't read Spanish very well but on a quick skim it seems like the Spanish publisher (and it does appear to be an actual publisher, not a self/vanity publishing service) for some reason chose to use the other image, yes. Unless there is a reason to think that they did so illegally (i.e., the original publishing house or the artist is suing), we should probably just leave it, at least for now.

220 Is "multiple languages" the correct choice? You can see a picture of a couple pages here but please note that is is likely NSFW if your boss (or kids :P) are looking over your shoulder.

220 Hi Andrea, technically, no, that doesn't belong in this thread, but don't worry about that. It would have been fine to start a new one for this issue. (Just so you know for the future.)

Carta per musica

I changed the title of the unknown book to Carta per musica. If you have any other changes to make to that record, feel free to drop me a message and I'd be happy to take care of it. (Edit: I also merged the existing record and the edition you created, and then deleted the extra one.)

220 True, Beth. I think that used to be the profile photo, or maybe I'm just used to seeing it on the author's web site or as his book jacket photo ... I don't know. :)

220 It seems to have only happened to ebooks ... paper books are displaying the usual default image.

220 At some point this book had the author's profile pic added as a cover. (It wasn't like that in July, when I added the official URL.)

The changelog doesn't provide any information about where it came from or when that I can see.

Unless this reflects a new policy that I missed, I'd like to delete it. This was a web-only publication and it never had any art associated with it, as far as I know. Is there any reason it shouldn't be deleted?

220 On the one hand, I like it. In a way a lot of those unshelved scan-POD things were redundant and crufty. On the other hand, I worked on them from time to time; when I read either an old dead tree copy or a Project Gutenberg edition I would combine and do a cleanup as needed. So ... I'm glad if it will improve database performance, but not exactly happy that some stuff I did has been obviated.
Scrambled ISBNs (4 new)
Aug 17, 2012 01:53PM

220 I just started reading this, and the ISBNs for two different editions appear to be confused. One edition is apparently not on the site.

Sorry, I couldn't think of a non-confusing way to explain this - but according to these pairs of numbers should go together:

068146609X -
9780681466098 - not on the site

1585670588 - not on the site
9781585670581 -
publisher's page:

The bolded items are the same in the database, currently.

Is there a standard way to fix this? I'm holding a copy that's labeled 1585670588 and I'm strongly tempted to just put that in the ISBN10 field for the existing edition (since it uses the ISBN13 number that should go with 1585670588).

But if the other edition actually exists (and it seems to?) then whatever I do will potentially put the wrong edition on the shelf for some users.

Help? Suggestions?

220 If the issue is that the authors are members of the Goodreads Author program and regular librarians can't merge them, I believe that you can post in this thread to have those duplicates combined.

Otherwise, what Vicky said.
220 I just combined a bunch of variants of Madame d'Aulnoy into this profile. She could use help from people who are comfortable with French, Spanish, Italian, and German as well as English. (Some editions may be modern enough for Worldcat to be of some use. I don't have time to look at them all right now, so I can't say for sure.) Thanks to anyone who has the time for this. :)

220 Searching for "shift jeri" brings up SHIFT River Scene by Zachary but not Shift. (I ran into this earlier.)

220 I agree with Paula.

Is this being contemplated to reduce the strain on the servers?

220 When I add a pre-ISBN book I try to remember to add the LOC catalogue # (if it has one) to the description and as a librarian note. Or if the publisher had a numerical designation for it, I use that.

Help? Looking at the individual authors' combine pages doesn't show a way to separate these books, at least for me.

220 It appears that the author of that book is also named Lynn Tyler. I've edited her name so that it will not appear on your profile.

220 Needs a super

Correct title is actually "Until Thy Wrath be Past" and I'm fairly sure this is an accidental duplicate. No ISBN or other distinguishing data.
