And we don't already have disagreement about what pages we would count? Pages are more misleading than word count, imo, because of font size, paper size, margin, etc. Look at this thread, we're having a disagreement about which page count from which epub format we should use. If we used word count, this wouldn't happen. There would be new problems, yes I agree, but it would be less problematic than page count imo.

Maybe we should have both a page and a word count field. More info doesn't hurt.

220 Instead of pages, I wish we used word count. Hella easier that way.

We only replace cover art if the existing cover art is of lower quality image being replaced with a higher one or if the existing cover art never belonged to that edition in the first place.

220 1) Description changed
2) Cover replaced
3) Original publication date changed.
4) It should be 288 pages as settled in another Librarian thread. Some misguided Librarian ignored the Librarian's Note of another Librarian.

I'll tell you what I told the other user who brought it up here and it's this: A zombie apocalypse is more likely to happen than Goodreads changing its rating system. Once that happen, then Goodreads will think about it... if they're not all zombies already. ;)

You're talking about me. I also said in that Librarian's Note that if anyone has an issue with this, then they should come here to this group and discuss it. However, if you truly find the "or you will be reported" line so threatening, then I apologize. I changed that part to "or your change will be reversed" now. Hopefully you will find it non-threatening.

As rivka said, we don't change covers on existing edition. We absolutely do not change covers simply for the fact because it look ugly or doesn't help sales or whatever. The times that we do is when the cover is inaccurate or we found a higher quality image for replacement. Goodreads is a book-cataloging website with an ability to sell ebooks, not a book-selling store that catalog books as a side feature.

That cover I plead people not to change is the accurate cover for that edition with that ASIN. Sorry if it bums you out. Moreover, we Librarians cannot control how normal users add edition or review which edition. What we Librarians do is keeping book records accurate. For that edition, I did just that.

220 Please delete this edition: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13... It is a duplicate of the 1st edition. Yes, the edition I want deleted has a different cover than the 1st edition it is duplicating but it is NOT an alternate cover edition. Someone simply took the cover from the 2nd Edition and slap on it there.

No, you're right. No review whatsoever in the book description. Description is the key word, or else it would be 'book advertisement'.

I see. But you can see where I am having problem with this. Because to me, original is original. It's not truly original anymore once it is effected by GR title convention. I guess we have a miscommunication about what original means.

I thought rivka said the opposite, that it does preclude GR having and following standards? At least it's how I interpreted her comment in message #11 and how she didn't outright say how I was wrong in the first couple comments of mine when I answering Νατάσα about this issue.

220 Nada wrote: "Done"

Please do not that. We are only allowed to replace cover if there is no existing cover or the existing cover is of low image quality.

Natalie wrote: "I need a new book cover uploaded. My book is here..."

An Alternate Cover Edition has been created. I also noticed in the Librarian Change Log that you replaced the old edition's info with the new edition's info, specifically you changed what was supposed to be the Nook 1st Cover-Art edition into the Paperback 2nd Cover-Art Edition. Please do not that. Goodreads absolutely forbid updating book pages with new edition's info — we would make a new book page for the new edition. The Paperback 2nd Cover-Art Edition has its own book page now, please do not change the Nook 1st Cover-Art Edition.

The new cover edition will take precedence when more people have added it over the old cover edition.

Title field, yes. But in the original title field?

220 Vicky wrote: "Not necessarily formatted as such."

But I am talking formatted as such. Original title is original title, exempt from Goodreads' title conventions.

Sandra wrote: "Experiment BL626, some random examples, incl a pb..."

I see series' title as the subtitle. I do not see them in parentheses and with a comma in this "(blah blah, #1)" setting which proves my point.

This one: Carinian's Seeker (Vampire Council of Ethics, #1) by T.J. Michaels

Its *original* title should be "Carinian's Seeker: Book 1 of the Vampire Council of Ethics" based on the cover-art. I already mentioned in comment #16 about how some books include the series' title as their subtitle. The example I gave was actually a real book.

I'm sorry to say, Sandra, but all the examples you've given prove my point. None of those series' title as formatted this "(blah blah, #1)" way as part of their original title.
