Hmm. If some of the editions are published with the chronological numbering on them, it would make sense to add a second series for that numbering. I'll get that set up....

220 It looks like the current listing is in publication order. I have added the chronology to the series description; if you'd like, I can also set up a secondary series linked to this one which numbers the books chronologically.

220 Cindy, it looks like you have multiple editions of some of these books available. We can make alternate cover editions for each existing edition and then you will be able to set one as default. Which editions are getting the new covers?
Feb 05, 2014 06:47AM

220 Got it.

FYI, to change a secondary author on a book record in this situation*, you need to edit the edition record, delete the incorrectly spelled name, and add the correctly spelled name as a new secondary author. (For books with multiple editions, you need to do this for each edition.)

* This situation being one where the correct spelling of the author's name has been claimed by the author and the incorrect spelling of the name has nothing attached to it but the book record; otherwise it might have been necessary and/or simpler to merge the incorrect spelling into the correct spelling on the author profile level.

220 John, if you've released a new edition of this book with a new cover you should create a new record for that edition. We don't remove covers from records of published editions because readers want to shelve the edition which they read, even if it is now out of print.

220 It might be an issue with the buy links you're attempting to use, then. Each user can customize their own set of links, so the links you're using may not be the ones that other people are using. When I tried a couple of your books with the Smashwords buy link which I have set for myself, they all pulled up a book on the Smashwords site. Are there particular books which are not working for you?

220 On the page for the video there should be a link on the right-hand side for "edit this video", and then at the bottom of the edit page there should be a link for "delete this video". I don't know if those links are available to author accounts or not; if they aren't, you can point us to the video to be deleted and a librarian can delete it for you.

220 Done.

(For future reference, you are Lisa^^Goldman, where the ^^ represents two spaces between your first and last names to separate you from other authors with the same name.)

220 Gerald, most of the purchase links work from the ISBN or ASIN fields. If your books are for sale through major booksellers such as Amazon, Smashwords, Barnes&Noble, or Kobo, you may have multiple editions of some books and you probably have an ISBN or ASIN for each edition.

* If you have a 10-digit ISBN, you can enter this in the ISBN field
* If you have a 13-digit ISBN, you can enter this in the ISBN-13 field
* If you have an ASIN, you can enter this in the ASIN field (there is a toggle next to the ISBN fields) instead of entering an ISBN, even if you also have an ISBN

On ISBNs:
* If you have a 13-digit number from Barnes&Noble which begins 294-, this is from their proprietary ISBN-13 sequence; you can enter this in the ISBN-13 field and leave the ISBN field blank
* If you have a 13-digit number from Kobo which begins 123-, this is from their proprietary ISBN-13 sequence; you can enter this in the ISBN-13 field and leave the ISBN field blank
* If you have a 10-digit ISBN and also a 13-digit ISBN which begins 978- and has the next 9 digits matching the beginning of the 10-digit number, you can enter the 10-digit ISBN in the ISBN field and the 13-digit ISBN in the ISBN-13 field; otherwise use only the ISBN field or the ISBN-13 field, not both

Does that help?

220 Got it. (Someone had swapped the year and the page numbers putting in a new edition!)

Gotcha! Okay, I'm going to merge the editions so that there's only one Kindle record and one paperback record, then add a new listing for the ebook with a publication date of April 2014.

I didn't notice that, actually -- that's what I get for moving too fast!

Robena, is this digital ISBN in use for any non-Kindle editions of this book? If it is not, I can merge the ASIN and the digital ISBN records into one which just uses the ASIN.

220 Sure, here you go:

You could be able to use this ISBN in a giveaway now.
220 Ine wrote: "Rivka does mention that it's to do with combining, which would easily be accomplished by temporarily switching the order around (which is what I did for the Murakami books)."

That can actually cause problems with the edition count not showing up correctly in some places. It's best to have all editions of a book under the same primary author.

220 Arto wrote: "So how to combine these? Version without ISBN is combined with which version?"

That is pretty easy, actually. I've merged it into the other Audio CD edition from Random House with the same cover.

220 Merged into the proper Premi Sant Jordi award listing. (Eline, you need to use the word "Nominee", not "Finalist", as the keyword here. "Finalist" isn't a valid keyword for awards.)
