I'm reading The Memoirs of Cleopatra which has inspired me to get back into the books about Ancient Rome...I can't wait to start that McCullough series.

Haha, that's hilarious...and probably true!
Elizabeth I
Cleopatra
Anne Boleyn
Julius Caesar
Mandy, I know what you mean about the Tudors...but c'mon, that would be one hell of a dinner party! Very strong personalities! I would have Michaelangelo and Henry VIII on my list in case one of the above were unable to attend. :)
Wait... you said historical, so Marilyn Monroe is out. Let's put Henry in!
I'm nearly finished with Weir's The Children of Henry VIII and am really enjoying it.
Next I'm starting Innocent Traitor.
There is a dystopic novel like that about what if Germany had not been defeated in WW2. It's called The Man in the High Castle. I've never read, but sounds intriguing.
Can anybody give me some good recommendations of books that cover the Germany or Prussian monarchy? I notice we don't have any books in the German Royalty bookshelf either. I'm having a difficult time finding some and would love to read a few prior to my trip abroad next year. Thanks!

The House of Medici Its Rise and Fall is a fantastic non-fiction read that covers the entire Medici era. It's not a heavy fact by fact book either. It reads very well.

Sandra, I have had the Josephine books on deck for a while. If it doesn't get selected, I would be happy to read them with you!

Yes! It was frustrating how long they stayed put!

I just finished Abundance and loved the ending. The period after the French Revolution, when the monarchy was dwindling, was great. I actually felt suspense. How strange is that in a history book?... I KNOW what is going to happen, but in my brain I was hoping the Queen would escape! Poor, poor, Marie.
Great writing.
