2196 The Listopia List "Books Harriet Didn't Love So Much" ( http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3441.... ) still cracks me up. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, some poor book only got 2 stars from Harriet!
Lee Biography? (4 new)

2196 There are quite a lot of books about General Lee - I think in the field of Civil War studies there are only more books about Lincoln.

I have heard good things aboutRobert E. Lee A Biography, by Emory Thomas; Lee Considered General Robert E. Lee and Civil War History, by Alan Nolan; The Marble Man Robert E. Lee and His Image in American Society, by Thomas Connolly; and Robert E. Lee Icon for a Nation, by Brian Holden Reid.

Haven't read that one, but he did go on a bit in The Confident Hope of a Miracle The True Story of the Spanish Armada.

2196 That's how I felt reading The Secret History, Misfit.

2196 It happened to me last week!

I have no idea what's causing it.

2196 Yep. One or more threads about it at the Goodreads Feedback group, too.

2196 Yes, as children, particularly the older sons, they would have their own "households" and not necessarily be living anywhere near their parents, imprisoned or otherwise.

With the case of her two daughters by Louis, Eleanor wasn't allowed by her ex-husband to see them. Because it was a fairly ugly divorce.

And traveling was not exceptionally easy, and a king or queen would generally travel in state, which made it much more complicated.

2196 How is it, Misfit?

2196 And some books are priced for libraries - but that probably isn't paperbacks.

2196 I was at the Tower Green in the 70s and 80s - much preferred the marker that was there then, to that tacky pillow thing.
Oct 01, 2009 11:11AM

2196 I agree - that's tacky!

2196 I think her historical grip is pretty good, and in the one place I can think of where her chronology is not the one most historians use, she explains her rationale for it in the book's author's note.

I can forgive a lot for a good author's note.
