21757 Cynthia,
Does People of the Book work for this task?
Dec 07, 2009 06:23PM

21757 Finally on the board!
I read The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane for Task 30.7 - Jan The Gryphon's Task.
I really enjoyed this one - I have been wanting to read it since it came out, so I'm so glad I was able to fit it in.

This fits both 10.4 as it is 5-stars on Wendy's read list and also fits 5.10 the Alliteration task.

Yay - I made it to my goal of 200!
I don't know how so many of you finish, but I'm happy making it to 200 considering I have two jobs, a husband and a 5-year old!

I'm hoping to finish one more before the end!

21757 Finished Task 10.6 - Native Americans
Read: Island of the Blue Dolphins. This was a re-read for me, albeit I read it probably about 25 years ago. I still liked it a lot, tugged at my heartstrings.

21757 I know we're still in the midst of the Fall Challenge, but are any of you just itching to get the task listing for the Winter Challenge? I think organizing was almost as fun as the reading itself! :)

21757 Today I completed Task 15.2 Read an alternative historical novel. Post a review where you state whether you think the world (or a particular country) would be better today if the author's version of history is what really happened, and say why.

I read Fatherland by Robert Harris. In this book, Germany won WWII and Hitler was still alive. The New Germany expanded over several countries and the "Final Solution" as it was called was carried out in full force. Joseph Kennedy was the President of the US in the 1960's and Germany and the US were allies. I absolutely do not think that this would have been better for Germany or the world for that matter. It was scary to read about the subject matter dealt with in this book (concentration camps and the Final Solution put into place by the SS). It made me very sad in the end to realize that although this was a science fiction book, many of the characters and situations the author drew upon really did happen. All in all, I enjoyed this book even though it took me 2 weeks to finish!

21757 Finished Task 10.10 - Read a novel that has a picture of a cat on the cover OR has the word Cat in the title

Listened on audio to
Cat O' Nine Tales And Other Stories Cat O' Nine Tales And Other Stories by Jeffrey Archer. I have not read Archer before and I normally don't do short stories, but I found this mostly enjoyable. There were a few clunkers, but I think that happens with most short story collections.

21757 Just completed 25.10 by reading Witch Hill. I was intrigued to read this as the author is the same as The Mists of Avalon, which has been on my TBR for a while.
However, this one couldn't go by fast enough for me - I didn't like it at all, but it was a quick one for this task.
