21757 Thanks!

21757 Does The Ruins fit this task?
May 22, 2011 12:06PM

21757 I'm thinking The Planets. Does this work? Its not really about space travel but its about space.

21757 Ghost Ship (Port Chatham, #2) by P.J. Alderman I'm using this. I originally picked it up for the Campfire task because I didn't have a book about ghosts then that task got shifted to include scary in general so I moved this one to this task. I think the dog on the cover is adorable.

21757 Dee, I checked out your GLBT shelf. Do have anything on there that isn't erotica?

21757 I'm thinking about reading Ash. It was listed on one the GLBT lists but from the blurb it doesn't appear to fit the bill. Can anybody confirm or deny?

The Book of Lost Things has a main character who is gay.

21757 I dropped this group last year (got super busy) but I couldn't stay away for long. I looked at the list and saw a Felina. I'm assuming thats me since I'm not finding another Felina as a member of this group.

21757 I'm thinking of I Drink for a Reason by David Cross. I wanted to read Tina Fey's book but I'm 291st in line at the library so I don't see that happening during this challenge.

21757 I also love the high number of tasks. I think most people would agree that picking books for the new tasks is probably the best part.

21757 Good to hear.

21757 Hi everybody!

I've been a long time Seasonal Challenge contestant who will absolutely never finish. With all the drama going on regarding Cynthia I figured I would come down here and see what RWS was all about. I'm actually excited about this. I'm going to assume that I can use the books that I've read since June 1.

Well I'm off to set up my books and I'll probably drop by the readerboard folder to drop of my points.

Since this is my first RWS challenge I can't say for sure but I'd probably follow you guys to your own group.

21757 I LOVE the county fair task. So imaginative.

Tanja - Great ideas...all of them. I hope someone creative (not me) can come up with something cool for Movember or Novembeard. Something easy could be a book with a male lead. I think it might be to hard to do a male lead with facial hair. How would you know until you read the book?

And for the record I like the Rosary task idea. Perhaps instead of the rosary we could choose another well know poem/saying just to ease the tension. Perhaps something by Robert Frost. Shakespear might be to hard since he uses a lot of words that are not common or no longer in use.

21757 Felina - I believe this is my 5th Challenge. Never created any tasks.

I agree. I like this challenge a lot as well.

21757 I have to say that I'm somewhat offended by the discussion of YA books being 'dumbed down' and a little bit more offended by the suggestion that YA books should be excluded simply because one person thinks they are dumb. I happen to be a fan of YA books as are a lot of people in this group. I don't like Biographies or Romance but I have never said or implied they were stupid or pointless and made suggestions that they be excluded. Like Jayme said 'if you don't like the challenge don't do it'.

I could make a list of the challenge tasks that included reading materials that I was not thrilled about or challenges that were to narrowed down with specifics that didn't apply to me. But they apply to other people so whats the problem? If you don't have a favorite number or phobia then get one or don't do the task.

So it really comes down to put up or shut up.
